Damaged Morgan---is there any hope?
small.gif)
No pics... Had a blast white MS63 21-P Morgan on my desk (waiting to send to Leroy Van Allen for a potential new variety). Somehow a rubber band ended up draped across the coin (Lord only knows for how long, as I had not been in the room for about a week). The result is a nasty black film on two parts of the coin. I dipped it to get rid of the gunk, but the luster under the gunk is completely gone. Its now got this dull gunmetal grey area along the rims and into the field/devises from 11:00 to 1:00 and 4:00 to 6:00.
Any suggestions as to whether this damage can be reversed or is the damage irreversible? Any thoughts? Thanks.

...my guess irreversible damage.
<< <i>Tried acetone. Got the gunk off, but the luster was lost. There really is no value above melt for this unless it comes back as a new discovery. Then, the question is whether ANACS would give it a details grade. Even then, it would still be a discovery piece... but if it comes back as already listed, into the melt bucket it goes! Since I only have about $15 into this coin (got it a couple years ago), I can at least turn a small profit! Thanks for the advice, guys. >>
sell it on the BST should still go for above melt , how bad can it be.
