If it has been improperly cleaned (hairlined for example) it will still be in a details holder. When they conserve copper, in my personal experience, they only remove surface contaminants no harsh cleaning or changing color.
I've seen this. One of mine I sent in for a color guarantee. I got a call from them saying that there was some contaminant on the surface, and that they were going to have the NCS dept "get that off there" for me. I was honestly hoping that the coin would show a little more color, but it was the same shoe-polish brown coin in an RB holder when I got it back.
