Would this ebay message bother you?

Ok I know I am asking to get flamed, however I want to know; is it just me that finds the comment unnecessary and kind of bothersome? So here is the story, I sold two sets of coins for a reasonable amount, a little less that what I wanted but not too bad of a deal. I put up a third set for sale and this time "I priced it according to what I wanted" The price was above market, but that was my price, if someone liked the set they could either pay that or simply wait till another one popped on ebay. So I get an offer, the offer was much lower than what I was asking but it was in line with my prior sales.

So I counter, dropped a couple hundred and submitted this message with my counter "Thanks for the interest, this is a low mintage set of coins. Cannot accept less than my counter sorry.". The buyer declines my offer and send the following message " I don't think my offer was bad as you have been selling these at $$$$$ and $$$$$. I think what your asking is ridiculous as graded MS70 set don't even sell for you asking price. Greed is NOT good as in Wall Street. Good day."

WTF so now the buyer tells me how to run my auctions and price my items? Was he thinking that with this message I would cave and gave it to him at his offer price? What was he thinking, seriously? The way I see it, there is my set there is my price buy it if you want to, I did not realize that I had to justify the price of an item for an auction I am paying for?

Ok flame away if you do not feel the same way and while you are at it please leave you Ebay nick so that I can make offers on your items and tell you how to price your auctions. image

PS.

I did not reply to the comment and it is not a bad comment, just bothers me when someone tells me how to run my affairs. When I first moved into my neighborhood, I had a neighbor that loved telling people what to do and when to do-it. So one day he approaches me and tells me that my kid should not take the trash can out before 8:00 P.M. the day before pick up; my reply was "the day you star paying my mortgage and my bills then you can come over and tell me what I should and should not do" he never bothered me after that...

You're right but you could have avoided it with a pre-emtive note: "I think the others sold too cheap and this is my opinion of the values of these sets." or something like that. I have often had to do something like this when a buyer tells me one sold at open auction in the middle of the night from a seller with bad feedback and a poorly written auction. I know, slightly different sittuation. But I would just let is pass or write a polite note in reply. I've sold to these type of guys. They think they'll spin you up and when you come back polite, it gets their attention. --Jerry

I wouldn't flame you on the eBay thing, but lots of people on here do lots of research before bidding, sounds like you ran into one of those. I would just counter with "this is my last set and I'm not discounting it like I did the others", he may turn out to be a long-term bidder. From some of the crazy eBay antics people talk about here, that guy sounds reasonable.

On the trash can thing, I would have asked if there was a reason not to put them out. If you replied like that in the town I grew up in you'd probably be buying a new set of tires the next day.

I'd go ahead and respond as follows: Yes, my two previous sales were less than I'm asking
for this set. However, it's my last set and if it does not sell that's okay by me. I would like
to keep one if possible, thanks for your take on the matter.

I agree with all the above comments. You handled it just fine. Don't worry about it.

There is an auto-decline feature available when you enable best offer. Use it, and you never have to see the low ballers.

Just let that stuff roll off your back. They have their own motivations, which you don't have to get wrapped up in.

I wouldn't have responded as either of you did, but I also don't think either of you did anything wrong.

I would just "fluff it off" and let it go, there are too many things in life to worry about than some kook.

Just ignore it. One of the least things to worry about on ebay.

Nothing worth flamming you for. He was obviously watching your other stuff and could have bought those. Your price is your price and NO ONE can fault you. It's not like you were selling bottled water after Katrina. The market will decide if it sells or not for that price.

Au contraire my fellow collector, I grew up in the same type of town and I know the rules of Etiquette; if someone slashes your tires, you burn their car down. image There was no reason other than the guy was on a power trip.

I agree with everyone, It did not bother me enough to reply but I am thankful that some posted they way they would have replied. Something for me to keep in mind in the future.
