Are there any coins where the entire population for a grade or type is owned by one person?

I dream of owning all Peace dollars in 67 or 68. I know, it's more of a pipe dream.

edit: the pop would have to be greater than 1 or 2. For instance, I tell my dealer I would like
to buy coin-x in MSxx and he says "It'll never happen, they're all owned by Mr. X"

I know in Seated Quarters your question would be answered as true. In the circulated grades, there are many date/denominations that have only a pop 1 for a coin.

Right, there is only one unc 1860-S quarter, only one unc 58-S. Both in the same collection.

The copper 1943 Lincoln set: P,D, and S has only one entry in the set registry, because only one 1943-S is known to exist. It is PCGS-certified, and it sold last year, making big headlines.

The majority of the 2000-P Sacagawea Dollar/Quarter Dollar Mules are owned by one person (Tommy Bolack)... if he doesn't own all of them.

I can't claim that but I do own one such coin!

1942-D/D in MS64FB. The next closest example is 6 points lower at AU58.

Hopefully I will get a few more one day...

Forum member RobKool came to visit my club in El Segundo. He told me that he is working on a grading set similar to the 1908-S cent set that was on display in Long Beach, but for a different coin. As chance would have it, he saw a dealer with stacks of coins for the date/mintmark/denomination that he decided on. There were two coins in a tweener grade, like XF45 or AU53, where the coin itself is worth maybe $3 to $10, that were in the pile. Rob looked up the pop, and it was a pop 2 coin! Pop 2 and both coins were in that dealer's inventory.

While it isn't really in the spirit of what the original poster was asking, but pop 2, and both were owned by the same dealer, and both were for sale. In this particular case, it is relatively easy to find other raw examples and make more, if a person is really motivated.

There are some colonial die varieties are all owned by the same person. Of course they are quite rare (3-5 known total)

For a very brief time I was the only person to have one of these graded by PCGS. Pop is now 5.

I don't know if this addresses the OP question, but no one person owns an entire population of any one of the 450 different Overton marriages of Capped Bust Half Dollars. The modern stuff, I could care less.
