Got me thinking, "Unclaimed Baggage" on the news, ever checked a bag and lost a coin?

There was an article on Fox or CNN this morning about where all the unclaimed, lost baggage goes, it goes here. So looking at their site and all of the expensive jewelry and such they find, I wonder how many coins they find? Has anyone ever checked a bag or been forced to check a bag with coins in it and had it lost or stolen. I envision the comments about how irresponsible or stupid it would be, but I imagine it has happened several times. Any boards members here wan to fess up?

I'm not a dealer so I don't carry enough coins with me when I fly to have to place any in checked baggage. I imagine dealers would be required to check some of their stock?

I do trip the alarm every time I fly though... they always find residue on the backpack I carry with me; the same one I used in Iraq and Afghanistan. They swab the backpack, it triggers the alarm explosives residue alarm and they always laugh, thank me for my service and then send me on my way. TSA at it's finest! image

I can't imagine anybody voluntarily checking baggage containing coins.
  • llafoe, my back pack always triggers the swab test alarm too! I figured I wasn't alone, I always double check to make sure there is not a little piece of det. cord or a cap as that wouldn't be to good for me. Now I pack my wife's stuff in there and have her carry it, seriously.

I believe to keep the insurance in effect, you must keep all coins in your possession at all times via carry on.
