"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
1865 Hannover Thaler- this one can be argued about, although it was graded as a proof you could argue with me that it was a DCAM PL, either way I like it and i do lean toward it being a proof striking.
Oooh Steve, that's a rare fiercy red beauty! I also like Filam's NZ crown, it just needs better imaging, what a classic coin.
Or Gazza's proof crowns?
This is going to be a classic Darkside thread, keep it coming! >>
Thanks, Dimitri. there are some beautiful coins in this thread . I have quite a number of proofs, but few images. My photo skills were never good, but they are really poor lately -Steve
"Illegitimis non carborundum" -General Joseph Stilwell. See my auctions
1807 proof Ag halfpenny. Shame about the reverse scratches, but beggars can't be choosers.
Peck lists 3 of the first item in museums, none of the second. Tempting fate due to lack of evidence, I think these may well be the only examples of both types available to collectors. Both ex-Selig.

We'll soon put paid to that.
Restrike halfpenny Peck type R24 in aluminium. The uncorroded parts are as a proof, the other bits - ahem.
Or for good measure, a Peck 778 - listed by Peck as a (proof?)
This piece appears to be the one in the related footnote on page 200 of Peck (2nd edition). The weight of this coin is 115.(7) grains and not the 157.3 noted. The indications are that Peck has a typo error in this instance because the 1. indicating the footnote is followed by 157 and as the coin matches the description in all other regards - 2 file nicks to rim, size etc. it is a reasonable assumption that these are one and the same. I can only find references to 2 pieces, both in the Bousfield collection (1911) lots 413 & 414. As the other is EF, this will definitely be the worse one. The flan is a thin one as found on the corresponding farthing of this date. Revised provenance for this piece is now Hoblyn 196, Bousfield 414, Parsons 668, Peck, Noble 59 and Baldwin's Gregory collection 516. The EF coin hasn't resurfaced to my knowledge in the past 100 years.

Rob,
Technically, they are only available to collectors if they are for sale.

They will be in the fullness of time. I'm now 2 years into a 30 year plan which should last me out. All those posted so far were bought by me on the open market, so all are/will be available even if not immediately so - unless the kids want them when I'm gone.
One piece of advice if you want any of them. DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH AS IT WILL BE TERMINAL.
And to comply with the title of this thread - A Weyl 1860 pattern penny struck in tin with a grained edge. ex J G Murdoch lot 690part, E Roberts, Glendining 15/12/1993 lot 255 & C Adams 192
L&M-97 var.; Kann-647 var.; KM-Pn101 var.; Chang-CH193 var. In 1929 the Chinese Ministry of finance ordered a new design for the then proposed Dr. Sun Yat Sen Dollar. Patterns were submitted from five of the world's leading mints: Italy, Japan, England, United States, and Austria. This represents the proposal from the mint in Vienna, Austria engraved by Richard Placht. the price is $207,000 . I think it's bid is really crazy.
