NEWP 1836 Quarter Eagle

Graded by NGC as XF45 and CAC certified. Frankly, I feel its more of an XF40. What do you think?

Tough one to image! Shot under diffused light.

I think that there is a flat central strike, which may be due to some die bulging. These are really hard to grade. Based on the surfaces and the star details, the XF-45 grade may be justifiable. Then again, if I submitted it, it would be a VF-25.

    Neat coin.

I'd like more meat on the bone at XF45.

    Here's a PCGS XF40 Block 8 variety.

Agreed. I am not sure what CAC saw in it.

    It's most likely CAC-able for a NGC XF45 image

With the L-I-B-E nearly washed out in the tiara, I wouldn't have expected it to be assigned a grade beyond VF-30. I guess A.N.A. Grading Standards aren't relevant to some TPG's market grading standards.

I will take it to CAC when I go there next week to get their re-evaluation.

I think CAC will say they still like it. AS RYK said, weak central strike (typical on a lot of these for some reason) nice star detail, maybe a bit bagmarked in the fields.

I would never pay 45 money for it!

On the "Classic" design, I completely dismiss NGC grades.
    They are purely silly.
    Outrageous, in fact.

I paid much less than XF45 money for it (based on PCGS price guide at least). So I guess you get what you pay for.

A little beat up, but an attractive original looking coin.

    I like it! image

I wonder if Pcgs would cross that coin even with the green bean.

    are todays 45's yesterdays 35's?
    Have a nice day
