Registry Blues

Of the 32 coins I still have to get in order to complete my primary PCGS Registry colonial type set (43 coins total), I think approximately 18 of them are routinely available and relatively inexpensive. I could literally buy one or two coins a month if I just wanted to complete the set. But since I require each coin to have a traceable provenance, it's MUCH more difficult and progress comes very slowly. I average about one coin every four months.
Am I just a nut for trying to build such a specialized collection?
Oh well...patience is a virtue and, hey, I'm relatively young!

<< <i>Your goals are eminently reasonable. So it's gonna' take some time... BFD. Getting each item will be much more fulfilling if it takes some time. Have fun on the ride. >>
While I might not have chosen exactly those words, I agree completely with the sentiment.
Where is it written that a collection needs to be completed in 12 months (or any other short period of time)?
Immediate gratification smoetimes leads to regrets later on.
Your method of collecting probably will pay off in terms of personal satisfaction and money well "invested" in your pastime.
Good luck and keep on keepin' on.

My self I would go ahead and get nice coins without it and replace when I could get one with. A lot like filling the hole and upgrading when possible.
But I can understand the use of patience and building the war chest up to get just that only one that fits to.
Bravo . .and good luck in your quest!

Good Luck to You!

<< <i>Sounds like the Registry is not causing your Blues. Your personal goal of the provenance on the coins is the hurdle.

I've never been a big fan of just filling a hole in a collection and then upgrading later. Normally, I would say there are just too many other coins out there to buy to spend my money filling a hole. In this case, I just grit my teeth and bide my time waiting for the next "right" coin to come along. This message board really helps me stay patient and focused.

I'm 43 years young! It's all about the journey...
To set a goal and try to reach it is what life is all about. A wise man once said, "This too shall pass." One of these days when your goal is accomplished you will look back and wonder where the time went. The main thing to do is enjoy the ride.
Have fun,
Ron
But I get the itch to buy just like you guys...and it's easy to question my sanity sometimes!

That's why I fill the holes I'm a lot closer to the stop sign.
