Are the 1972 Doubled Die Obverse common?

I've found 5 so far in the collection I purchased today... 2 in RD and 3 in RB. I would guess they grade MS63-MS65.

I am assuming your speaking of Lincolns. There are 8 different doubled dies recognized by Fivaz/Stanton and PCGS. The rarest is the die 4, the most common is the die 3. What type of doubling do you have?? Shag

Mine have EVERY single letter and number doubled dramatically to the right for IGWT and above (or below, I can't tell which) for Liberty and 1972.

Die 2 and die 7 are doubled to the right. Die 4 is also, but not dramatically. Any rim cuds at LIBERTY? Describe the doubling on the 2 in the date. Shag

Doubling for THE DDO 1972 in the motto area should appear up and to the left.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

They are not "rare", but they are not common. Certainly, they are no 55 DDO (which is not "rare" either), but they are at least more sought after than the 84 DDO.

Are you tellin' us that you have found not one, but five 72 DDO die 1's? Have you looked at the price guides? Congratulations? So who was it lost a thousand dollars
    on this deal? Shag

Too many coins... too little time. I have 2,500 Lincolns to sort through. If I only knew what I was doing it be sooooo much easier! Now lets see if I can find some of those 1955 DDO. Nothing after 1973, so I won't be able to find those 1984s!

Damn you suck. I have looked for years for one for my memorial set and finally broke down and purchased one about a month ago. And you find 5 of the friggin things

    If they're all die-1 that's a super nice find!

Being common might not be the reason, whoever had that collection might have paid big $ or had some lucky rolls.

    Does sound like a

I've found 2 from roll searching-one MS63 red and an XF. Surprisingly, I have never found any of the other more "common" years.

They were part of a collection, and I think the collector knew what they were. "Found" is probably not the best word here.
