GB Hammered Edward VI Shilling ND (1551-1553)

Am getting more and more into the darkside and
Thought I'd post this to ask what do you think of this piece, I am not an expert in hammered coinage and am wondering if it is undergraded and was price over current market?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Edit to add: even if mintage figures from that far back did survive, they probably wouldn't tell you a whole lot. I would think the important numbers are the coins that survived, and that's all about hoards.
<< <i>Without my Spink book handy, I don't think there are mintage figures from that early. I can imagine such documents falling afoul of the Civil War a century later, perhaps. I don't think there are are reliable mintage figures up until the 18th century or so, but that is a wild guess and I could definitely be wrong.

You are quite correct Lord M , the earliest mintage figures i've come across are from Geo IV . Some of the early reigns what would happen with Gold and Silver coinage is when one monarch died the coinage was melted down and reissued with the new monarch. This certainly occured in Scotland.

Also, the price for the Coronation Medal is appropriate, I think.

That's a VERY nice one for the grade IMO. I'd take that one graded 40-45 and not think twice about it. (again, not that I'm an expert grader yet, but this one seems obvious)
Love the obverse toning, too.

A nice VF, i.e. undergraded in US terms. Based on a consistent numbering system I'd give it 40-45 too. Some light wear to the highpoints and an unfortunate striking split (which is an occupation hazard with hammered), but round, fairly well struck up and about the right price. It's a decent coin.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
