  Really depends on the coin/series...
  
  Personally, I would solict the advice of JoeCopper, NoTwilight and Cardinal. I'm sure I've missed someone....
  
  That said, I don't consider myself an expert, but I do actively collect them, and was closest in guessing the hammer on the starred reverse cent, so that has to count for something.
