Ok, so what kind of penalty is there for an Ebay buyer not paying?
Since I am an upstanding buyer, I have never not paid for anything. However, I ran a bunch of BIN listings last week, and two different buyers on the same night hit the BIN on 4 items each totaling $57+. I have filed an "Unpaid Item Case" against them. I did that two days ago, and nothing. It doesn't look like I will be getting any money out of either one of them.
First of all, what possesses someone to do that? It's like - "(cheesy laugh) hu hu, I think I'll buy a bunch of stuff and make the seller mad by not paying for it. Hu Hu, that was fun!" I just don't get it. When I buy something, most every time, I pay for it immediately.
Secondly, what penalty is there for buyers doing that? That crazy thing is that both buyers have 100% feedback with scores of 2175 and 484. I just don't get it. I really thought about buying a bunch of stuff they had for sale and not paying for to show them how it feels, but (you guessed it) neither one had anything for sale.

<< <i>I generally get written warnings for counterfeits not purchased. "Don't do it again or else" letters and NPB strikes. Out of dozens of non-buys, only once has an ID been NARU'd. More than a few death threats though
How many non-buys before you are NARU?
Winpitcher,
I'd like to be the one to give those lashes.

Hard to try to get into the minds of these jackasses. My guess is that some or perhaps most of them hope that the seller will accidentally ship them the order, and then they would get it for free, because they of course have no intention of ever paying for it. I doubt very much if many, and probably hardly any sellers make this mistake, but these scumbag buyers don't know that. Heck, they probably figure "why not" do it because they've got nothing to lose.
Save on ebay with Big Crumbs
Flyer fans are ok, all 3 of them.

1. Did you email them about payment before opening NPB?
2. How many days did you wait for payment before opening a NPB ? 4, 7 , 10, 15?
3. a lot of old timers still think 7 days is the time they have to pay?
I still allow 7 days for payment and list that in my listings, along with combined shipping for items bought or won within 5 days, and will not open a NPB claim until day 10 to day 14, unless they have low feedback or get Narued then I open it as soon as possible.
I only send 1 invoice and then send a reminder on day 7 or 8.
I know it sucks when someone doesn't pay ties up merchandise & money and consumes time.
With both buyers having high ratings 2175 & 484, it is possible they are your competition, or on holiday, sick, or just absent minded thinking they have already paid.
there seems to have been a rise in NPB 'ers in the last 6 months as I have had 7 NPB and opened up 10 NPB claims, 3 of the 10 then paid ending the NPB claim and of those 2 of them I believe dinged my stars (double edge sword even when they pay). have 2 buyers right now riding on 7 day & 9 days without payment, and wish that ebay would allow sellers to leave negative feedback or at least neutral feedback for buyers.
had a funny one before xmas auctioning an item that ends on the 26th and have a bidder email and say "Hi going on 3 week vacation on the 23rd will return 1/14, so if I win don't panic as I will pay on 1/15, as I will not have internet access thanks"
So I am now waiting till the 15th luckily it isn't an expensive item (34.00).
The sellers are at the buyers mercy and they know it. jmho
<< <i>I would bet that most if not all of these NPB are Phillie or Eagles fans.

Use the Instant Payment Required (IPR) feature
on your BINs.

Good idea. I think I will change that tonight.
As far as how long I waited - I have my account set up to automatically file a claim after 8 days. I sent 2 invoices for each buyer before the 8 days were up. No email, no payment, no nothin'.

it would be nice of you to post their ebay id's if they end up not paying at all,so I can add them to the BBL.
One of the problems with that is when a person wants to buy multiple items then you'll get a separate payment on each one and that could lead to PayPal delivery issues if you combine into one shipment. No matter how they're paid for, both the buyer and seller will expect to be able to combine everything into one shipment. If you don't have free shipping the buyer will be paying your full shipping charge on each payment. For cards where you tend to buy/sell more than one at a time it can create some issues.
I use the BIN with IP. I do free shipping which I roll into the cost of the card. So if I want $45 for a card I will put it up for $48 and free shipping. That way the hassels of combine shipping and the IP do not happen.
