Thanks. We all get a little carried away sometimes hiding behind a computer instead of actually talking sometimes. I am in that group as well sometimes.
Nice signature line, Littlebear. I have Asperger's, and my 6-year-old son is also autistic. The more support the better.
Personally I think that recent events have had an effect on all of us. Some, or hopefully just someone, took his opinions too far & crossed 'the line'. I've been here long enough to realize the 'mentality' here is cyclical. We, as a group, start 'civil', then slowly get progressively more cynical & aggressive. The 'gang' mentality grows & grows until a Don Willis steps in & chastises the whole..... and then the whole process starts over. I truly doubt that will change for the most part. Human nature? Though this time 1 was 'overboard'.
My wishes for those of us here...... Communication goes a long way in keeping problems 'private'. Patience only goes so long without communication. If you don't have a 'dog in the fight', or know FACTUAL DETAILS, then don't comment on a problematic situation. If you have to comment, keep it civil & impartial. If you want/need to block a member, or eBay buyer/seller because of someone's story/recommendation, do so....but I don't need to know, I can make up my own mind on what to do and we usually only hear one side of the story. If you find a member way out of line, report it (do as I say, not as I do, as I did not report my nominee )
It is unlikely that the database from this forum could be ported over to modern forum software. Fusetalk is built on Cold Fusion and runs on a Windows platform. Most modern form software is MySQL and runs on a Unix platform.

The IP address is problematic, though. As was mentioned in this thread, smoe people have dynamic IP addresses that change all the time. Of course, a lot of people have static IP addresses that never change. But that prevents other people in the household from joining. We've had husbands and wives here, fathers and sons, it's not uncommon. The email wouldn't work well because a lot of ISPs allow different email addresses. There might be something in the email header that could be useful, but, yes, the IT guys would know more about that. I do think the IP address is useful at times, but can't be used solely and it's certainly not 100%.
And if a person has two different internet accounts, there wouldn't be any way to detect that when an alt signed up.

Why couldn't you export the ColdFusion database to some comma delimited format and convert from that? Or write some custom software that reads the ColdFusion database and converts to some other modern database like MySql or Oracle?
BTW: when you say Unix, you mean Linux, right? Like Red Hat? >>
Sounds logical to me, but I'm not the expert.
Takes $$$ and effort. But maybe it's time to bring the old dinosaur up to modern times.

I'm currently in the dark myself Billy although I have spotted a few and also knew of a few alts in seasons past. >>
And proving they are alts will lead to more "out of control" threads as people debate the merits of the "proof." Sides will be taken and words will be exchanged.
