Neat Stone Mountain Piece

I received this today; I'd expected to have to pay a bit more. I'll have to get some live opinions as to whether or not the coin was struck on a medal press, as the first 1,000 were.

That is classic! I had to see what other items that seller had listed... regretfully; none. image

Very neat. Too bad the underbidder noticed it!

Can't tell. Looks like the coin was cleaned many times over the years.
Fantastic case! Yes, it does sound cheap.

I like the display. Interesting bit of history. I think the coin has been cleaned regularly.
Not as much as the display appears to have been cleaned though.

The display case and plaque are quite cool, but is there anything there to tie this particular half dollar to the presentation? It might have been stated in the text of the auction, but it was run together so hard that I didn't read all of it.

No, no provenance. All I had to go on was to compare this plaque to a picture of the plaque presented to President Coolidge. That satisfied me. The next time I visit the Stone Mountain archives I hope to find a listing of the recipients of all the preasentation pieces.

Sorry, I didn't answer your particular question. There is nothing to tie the half received with the case to the presentation.

that is one of the coolest things I've seen on here in some time.

it's nice to see something where pluses and beans don't mean squat.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

I think that is really cool though the fact that the coin has been "Around the block" kinda detracts the total coolness factor.
may the fonz be with you...always...
