another zero feedback ebay seller with high-value coins

What are the chances that this seller's numismatic items will ever be delivered? From Escondido, CA, ebay user ID collectiblesrs, zero feedback, displaying stock illustrations of one ounce gold and platinum eagles, also selling some cheap baseball cards.

his large silver bullion coin lot: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320633522032#ht_720wt_1110

You think he/she should have built up the feedback before offering
the higher dollar material? I don't see any red flags otherwise.

I live really close (10mi) to Escondido. So, if it's a scam, I can take my cousin Vinnie and follow up.image

It's also quite suspect that all of his high value coins are stock photos/illustrations and not actual pictures of the coins themselves.

FWIW - I live in Escondido. Is there an easy way I can check him out?

Maybe you can inquire if he would allow you to pay in cash, if you were to meet up with him in person. It looks suspicious because the gold and platinum coins are 1-day auctions with stock photos, and he has other items listed which he apparently photographed, so he could have photographed everything, if he has them.

You can't lose if you pay paypal. Buyer protection will cover you. Worst case, up to three weeks to get your money back. Paypal freezes funds of sellers with less than 100 as a seller until proof of delivery (if it ain't what it's supposed to be file immediate "not as describe" dispute) or positive feedback from buyer. Buyer protection has save my butt a bunch of times. It works!

Yes, but it could take longer than three weeks from the time you pay if he claims the items were shipped, and he says they are in transit, and in the meantime your funds are tied up, which means you could miss other buying opportunities. And if you paid by credit card through paypal, you might have to make a larger payment or pay added finance charges, and when the funds are ultimately credited back to you, they go into your paypal account and not back to the credit card as an adjustment.

Yes, but they usually start by being a buyer or by selling inexpensive coins first to build up some feedback.

That part of his comments might be okay since it referred to his other auction of Morgans, recently closed: ebay link

Pretty good price, if the buyer actually gets them. That's less than apmex is paying.

All of my refunds from paypal were credited back to the credit card. Regardless of him claiming item was shipped, paypal will refund your money if you have not received item within time frame of the dispute process. If he can prove you received it after paypal has ruled in your favor and refunded the money, paypal will take it back from you.

Even with buyer protection, I'd have a hard time dropping 10gs on an item like this....

Follow-up: Recent feedback comments reveal the seller was indeed an attempted scammer, most likely unaware his Paypal receipts would be held back until after he completed delivery and received positive feedback. His one positive feedback obtained from the purported local sale of a cheap baseball card was clearly provided by a co-conspirator, if not by himself.

I can honestly say that I've never seen an eBay seller with a score of 25% and a (-2) response rating.

Looks like someone thought they were going to steal $72,000+.... when things like this happen you have to wonder why PayPig/eBay don't involve law enforcement?
