The owners of my store have 36 years of knowledge in the numismatic field. They believe the coin to be genuine.

I think it is genuine, but not something that I would want in my collection.

I think it might be worth $1000 at auction, unless it is an extremely rare variety or type.

I'm looking forward to reading the experts as they chime in - but it is a very cool piece of history, if real (and I hope it is).

Well, I'm no expert, but that hasn't stopped others. image

Looks like a Wass Molitor small head variety (not rare).

Prices range from $2800 (Genuine) to $4600 (F12-15) at Heritage.

Looks a little chewed up around the rims. I don't see any with a similar cud at 5 o'clock at HA.

What did you pay?? I'd guess the value as $2000 or so, if genuine.

i would buy risks like that at spot any day of the week!
heck.. i would even go spot + 100 without even thinking.

this has the potential to be a very nice purchase.

i am not sure if that is even a cud or a really nice dent with a flattened look to it.
too bad the pics are cropped to tight and we cannot see the whole coin's rims.

I'll put more photos of the coin up tomorrow.
  • I'm no expert either, but as someone said it's not rare, I'd add that it is not common either. At the right price it could be a great pickup; I like it.image

Very cool coin......Has to easily be worth a couple large and change......
All you need are two people wanting it !

I think that's very low... IMO baseline $2500, likely $3250.

My gut feeling says genuine, but boy is it ugly.
