<< <i><< I certainly agree the seller would be violating eBay policy; however, it's unclear to me that the buyer would be violating eBay policy. You can't breech a contract where no contract exists.
While using eBay sites, services and tools, you will not: circumvent or manipulate our fee structure, the billing process, or fees owed to eBay;
I guess if you do not have an eBay account then the above does not apply...if you do have an account then I think it does apply. >>
When making a phone call to a dealer, one is not using "eBay sites, services [or] tools." >>
Using that logic, the seller could make the phone call and he wouldn't be violating EBay rules, either. Sorry, but I think you're rationalizing your hypocritical behavior. >>
I agree with Mark.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

The seller would have an active eBay listing while he was making the phone call; therefore, he would be using "eBay sites, services [or] tools." I'm not a fan of cheating; however, I'm not a fan of making needless donations to eBay or anybody else. >>
And you used the site, services or tools to find the listing, which revealed the seller, whom you wanted to work with, in a manner which would end up circumventing Ebay fees.
In all candor (and possible rudeness), I am trying to figure out why the OP would possibly post a thread about this occurrence. Specific information was not given (ie. a link to the auction in question or reference to the seller), no lesson was offered (other than the self-evident one that even my eleven year old knows-- that possibly some people on ebay may lie or be poor at math), and there was no possibility that anyone other than the OP could be correct on all accounts. This should have been locked after the initial post and pinned to the top so that we could all read and not respond.
Makes one wonder about the thousands of auctions currently up where the seller states "This item is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early."
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Exactly my point, if sellers are able to use ebay as a window to their inventory and then sell outside anyway then why are you keyboard vigilanties jumping on the OP? If ebay wants to stop this type of window shopping then thay need to have a fee for ending an auction early; I cannot beleive that I'm suggestion another ebay fee I'm not defending the OP's actions but some of you that have responded to this thread with threats of reporting really need to get a life

Do you suppose it's possible someone might advertise a coin for sale in more than one place at the same time? And that a potential buyer might locate that coin and make an offer to buy without ever having seen it on eBay?
Today I saw a coin I wanted with a BIN and best offer and phone number. So I called the seller and he agreed to a price that was 8% less than the BIN if I just mailed a check. Which I did.

He was venting.
Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that.

Just wondering...

I am sure I will just hate the coin now.

Sort of, I think...
Based on what I can tell from what remains here, I don't believe the OP found the coin someplace other than eBay, though.
