Should I NEG this seller?

Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
Last week I bought an assortment of cheap loupes on Dec 3, that was last Friday, to keep in my desk and in my tool box (they're also good for examining small parts from engines such as sparkplugs, ignition points and # on carb jets). I bought a single lot of 3 with FREE SHIPPING Text and another different style single lot of 3 with $1 shipping. Text
Both transactions were with the same seller.
They arrived yesterday, Tuesday Dec 7, after 4 agonizingly long days, all in the same mailer with Delivery Confirmation and wrapped safe & secure in bubble wrap and there was a 17c stamp on it!! Hell, I didn't even know they made a 17c stamp (see pict) but that's beside the point. The seller charged me $1 but postage only cost him 17c. The seller is obviously making an excessive profit from his shipping and at my expense.
After all, he could have put the $1 shipping items in the FREE SHIPPING envelope and not cost me anything. I didn't mind paying $1 for shipping the advertised $1 shipping ones but the way he combined shipping I actually paid to have the FREE SHIPPING ones shipped to me.
Should I NEG him for both deals and file a dispute to recover the extra 83c or pull out all the stops and demand my whole dollar back?

You should give him 5 stars for getting something through the mail for only 17 cents!

I wouldn't NEG him over $.83. Hit him hard on the DSRs and let it go...

The stamp was additional postage the post office told him he needed in addition to his online postage payment (the barcode on the lable). If this is the worst of your ebay complaints you are doing good!

You haven't contacted the Postmaster General about this?

    A Pitney Bowes CEO?

I'm sure there is some kind of mailing agreement that must be followed.

<< You should give him 5 stars for getting something through the mail for only 17 cents! >>

Oh, that's another thing, if you read the auctions the FREE SHIPPING one clearly says delivery "Estimated within 6-10 business days" and the $1 shipping one says "Need it by December 24? Buy and pay today Estimated between Mon. Dec. 13 and Fri. Dec. 17." THEY ARRIVED ON DEC 7! Being that the seller didn't meet his obligations and terms of shipping time on neither auction should I ding his DSR as well?

Again, this sounds like another post office foul up.

Contact the Postmaster General and ask him if he is not indeed charged with "getting things done."

He had to pay for a extra ounce of postage is what the 17¢ is for. The difference between 2 oz and 3 oz is 17¢. Actually the Delivery Confirmation costs 19¢ alone when done online,
As for it taking forever to get to you it is the busiest mailing season of the year except for April 15th.

You guys who calculate and agonize over what you paid frustrate me. First, it is shipping and handling. So you're going to worry over .83 handling?

But what frustrates me even more is that people who don't do much shipping, don't know how it works, are the judges and jury for those of us who ship.

17c is the extra ounce rate. So he printed out the postage, packed it up, found out it was an ounce heavier than he thought it was, and added .17 cents to cover that ounce. You don't know how much he paid electronically.

Here's the kicker. When a package is over 1/4" think, it goes at a package rate rather than a letter rate it will definitely be over $1. IIRC, 2 oz is about $1.25.

So he's losing money and you want to neg him for ripping your off? I try to know what I'm talking about before negging anyone, and I certainly wouldn't neg someone over a few cents of shipping.

I send $2k to $5k coins by express mail. I print out the postage and then buy the insurance at the post office. The postage is $18.30. Insurance on $2k is $8.45. So the post office puts a metered sticker for $8.45 on the package. I charge $23 for shipping so I lose about $4. I assume if you got this package you'd neg or low star me for charging $23 and only paying $8.45? Maybe that's what happens when my stars take a hit.

I agree! Being that this is the Post Office's seasonal busy time my package should have at least been on time or a little late, instead of arriving 5 days earlier than the seller promised. Thanks for the advice!

He underprinted his postage and the post office caught it, the stamp makes up the differance. If I were a seller, I would block you due to this post.

EDIT, Sorry, just realized this was a joke , lol, ya got me !!!!

Jerry you sound like a nice guy but you're an eBay seller and obviously not getting the point here. Put yourself in my shoes for a moment as the buyer. Wouldn't you find it disturbing if a seller undercharged you for postage then turned around and got your properly packed package to you in only 2 biz days? You can check his
FEEDBACK for yourself, he seems to have a pattern of doing this.

Show the 17¢ stamp to the postmaster and tell him you think it's a Chinese counterfeit, but that you want to make sure so that you can put the correct text with the neg.

Something is definately wrong with usps. First you get your package way to early, then I check tracking on a package I shipped, web site says it will be delivered tomorrow
and when I logged on here I have a PM saying that the package arrived today ! Shoddy...

Buyers like you should stick to shopping in actual stores. You can control all aspects of the transaction. You can decide how far and what store to drive to and see the item in person. You can pay retail for an item that will sell cheaper on the bay. You can pay the sales tax to keep the government running. By shopping in person you can eliminate all the stress you being ripped off 83 cents.image

I recommend that you find some pride and think hard next time before posting a thread soliciting feedback over an 83 cent shipping difference. Neg him. Don't neg him. Flip a coin next time.
  • ebaybuyerebaybuyer Posts: 2,984 ✭✭✭
the problem is that many buyers WOULD leave the bad feedback, not realizing that the seller is the one that lost money. i agree with a previous poster, those who dont ship, have no idea what is involved and should stay out of the process entirely. and yes the post office WILL catch a package that has insufficient postage, but bet yer a$$ you wont get a refund for overpaying.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

I didn't say he was in inexperienced buyer, just an inexperienced shipper. And he may do some shipping. But he obviously doesn't know the in's and out's of bulk shipping with electronic postage. Not meant to reflect badly on him.

If he accidentally under weighed the package, he would have to add the 17 cent stamp to get it to you. I don't even think you can mail a post card for 17 cents. I would not give the seller a neg over this.
