I am not surprised in the least. As long as they have the silver, the presses and the time.....why not get the profit?

I hadn't heard that yet. They have gone over 1,000,000 ASE proofs in the past and could this year I'd bet.

Can they sell the 2010 ASE proof in 2011?
This is the first year I am buying the proof version (I started collecting last year) so I don't know if that happened in the past.
If they cannot, they shouldn't be able to reach the 1M pieces (according to Mr.Moy they can produce 200K per month and they started, supposedly, mid-september)

They sold 2009 proof sets in 2010. They can sell proof W's into 2011

I wouldn't believe anything the people answering the phone at 1-800-USA-mint. I've been dealing with them long enough to know even though they think they know what they are talking about, they have no clue.

And besides, who really cares? Buy them if you like them, keep them if you collect them, sell them if you care to.

Of course they can sell them next year, and the years beyond that. It's not likely, but I recall at least one proof coin being available for years and years. Not to mention the proof sets they brought back from nowhere one year.

You spoke to a drone. It's almost December and they are undoubtedly already making 2011 material. I believe what is in stock is it. 600k or less I'd bet. The demand is going to outweigh the supply imho...........

I learned an important lesson with the UHR coins.

I never thought there would be enough demand to sustain a premium for a $1400 coin with over 100,000 mintage.

    Boy was I wrong.............

Never forget market price is not just a simple product of mintage but rather market price is the product of mintage AND demand.

    2many -

True, but the UHR was a one year only "super popular" design.

I expect that we will see at least 800,000 2010 Proof ASE's, they are enormously popular, as long as Spot Silver cooperates and moves even higher, nothing to worry about with these.

But dont expect to flip quick for 100% profit. Way too many available. Unless we are surprised.

On the mint site in the details of the Burnished 2006 W ASE it said they would be "minted to demand" but they went poof with no warning on 11/24/06.

I know this because I got lucky and ordered on 11/23 then and decided to get more the next day and it was no longer available....

btw - they were $19.95 each....

I believe these will be minted to demand.

It really doesn't matter. $45.00 bucks a peice in the future is going to seem dirt cheap.

Not to be a party pooper, but into the future could be a decade or more!!!
Once graded and shipped both ways, only adds to the wait for a profit window.
First Strike @ $18 is not much of a factor on this issue IMHO.
I have yet to make a profit on ASE's, except for the 2006-W anniversary set PCGS graded PR70 or MS70.
Reverse proofs did quite nicely too!
Did I mention the Milk Spot problem?? image

    Good luck to all forumites!!

Commemoratives do have legislation which usually states they can only be sold in the year of issue, these do not fall into that catagory.

However, I'd say a rule of thumb might be they will not strike any new ones in 2011, but if they have left over from 2010 strikes, they usually continue to sell them.

Of course, this is the Mint, so anything can happen, which makes guessing where the next rarity will come from all the more fun. image
