A grey side(?) would she grade - GBP Trade $

I know this is probably better suited for the world forum but I wanted to get a little more active response to it. Those guys are great there too but its down to like 5 weekly posts. I bought this coin from a large dealer in Australia. Id like to hear opinions on whether she would grade at either service. The 2 issues in question are A. Color B. The gash at 11pm. And do you tink shes MS or AU? I know most people would disqualify her as a problem coin but I looked at thousands of these and the eye appeal on this one was not even nearly matched by anything out there. The dealer appeared to be a very well repsected dealer down there and felt that the toning was natural. I think she's gorgeous. Any input welcome, thanks!

Ahh Britannia, wonderful coins those British trade dollars. Color looks fine to me (I adjusted in photoshop as best I could), and she certainly appears MS. The gash however would keep it from grading IMO. I sold off a slew of these on eBay a few years back. Now, of course, I wish I had held on to a few of the nicer ones.

If anyone has a proof, I'd love to see a picture of one.

    always loved this design!

gash at K10 keeps it from problem-free plastic but still a nice coin.......decent strike for a Bombay issue ("B" in mid-fork of her trident)

someone said to post a proof, i want to see one of the handful that were struck in gold!

Great coin. I think the color is OK, strike is great, fields are good.
There may be some rub on her blouse, but it is hard to tell.
I am afraid that the contact marks around the rim will be enough to bring it into an AU grade.

Agree. Save your money and keep it raw.

what adjustments were needed? I spent an hour tweaking the color just right in some heavy duty software? Were the shapes distorted? I'm working on a tv and that has been happening but the color should be spot on.

That doesn't look like a scratch to me. It looks raised, which would make it a die gouge and shouldn't affect grade.

You should be able to tell for sure in hand if it is raised or not.

I agree, it looks like it's raised. I think it's AU though with wear on the highpoints/breasts.

I like the look of yours. Too bad about the gouge on the reverse.

I have a few different ones, some with problems. They are a neat coin.
I don't have any reverse shots at this time.

  • Its definelty a goucge, not raised. I have it in hand. The high points though I think re untoned and therefore appear as rub. Also the light from the photo setup catches it and reflects.
