Something is not right about the date. Is this a real coin with an altered/re-engraved date, or a modern fake?

<< <i>If one were to alter a date to make an 1890 half what date would it be? Certainly not a more expensive 1880. There really aren't any good candidates.

I agree. The coin is either counterfeit or genuine, and not with an altered date.
<< <i>his 1871 fake half has the same striations as his 1890 fake half. Scammer. >>
I'm guessing you meant Dollar and not "half".

<< <i>I agree, the coin is no good. Has someone reported it to eBay? >>
I did, as I did about his 1888 Half, his 1871 Dollar and his 1932-D Quarter. But please, the more, the better.

<< <i>Listing removed. It's possible the seller did not even know they were fake. Didn't look like a typical scammer. >>
I hope you are right. But, while it doesn't prove anything, he didn't reply when I sent him a message through Ebay. I am more inclined to think better of those who reply, whether they sound concerned or outraged.

I agree with you Mark. I also wrote him and suggested he get them authenticated and to also
check his source. Got no reply.
