Picked up yesterday at our local coin show, I offered $30 and seller agreed.
I believe the coin to be MS and wrote the VAM designation on the holder when I got home.

Is the coin as nice as it looks? Because it really looks 64/65, but it says AU on the holder...

Typical weakish O strike that is often mistaken for wear.
Here is another weakly struck coin I just recently sent in:
Weak strike thread
In your opinion?

You should have bought that guy out of all of his AU stuff! Danggggg!

O/CC very desirable and worth upwards of $400 and up in UNC, this is being conservative I think.
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
Gorgeous coin!
Yeah, if the dealer had other "AUs" like that, I would have cleaned him out.
<< <i>Well, I hate to say it, but I've got a 1900-O in MS-64, and unless mine is an unusually strong strike, yours has even wear all over it, and is every bit AU. I don't have pictures, sorry. I'm sure Heritage does, though, if you'd want to compare. Nice VAM-8, though. >>
This coin is NOT AU. End of story. It's MS64+.

kurtdog what are you seeing that makes you believe the coin is AU...are you only looking at strike because I see no break in the luster?

<< <i>Borderline "You Suck™" protocol violation here. If someone declares that they Suck™ before someone else does, they may not receive a You Suck™ for the item for which they claim they Suck™. Asking whether or not You Suck™ is frowned on, as a You Suck™ must be given freely and without suggestion. Had you not asked if you Sucked™, I definitely would have said you did, so you essentially Suck™, but with an asterisk. Very surprised to see an MS 1900-O/CC in the wild, and I'd think that coin would likely grade MS64. Nice luster, above average strike, no heavy marks, the scuff on the cheek and forehead is too broad, positive eye appeal. >>
LOL
You violated YS protocol.

Hi Shane. I'm drawing off the detail, principally. Based on what you guys are saying, though, I'm starting to think I may just have a very uncharacteristically strong strike for this series. There are a lot of areas on this one, though, that are lacking in detail, when compared to mine. I'm attributing those rather "smoothed out" areas to wear. As it's evenly-distributed throughout the coin, though, I'll agree it could very well go as simply a characteristic soft strike for the series, and, as such, by no means should be held against the grade.
I thought we might be able to resolve the question if we could go to Heritage and see if we could find some of these, because I'm busy, and I don't have time to take pictures of mine. Hey, sorry I have to cop out on that.

LOL. This is well said and funny but it is also entirely correct. You cannot ask for a You Suck™ and if you do, it cannot be awarded.

It does add to the Suckiness® of the deal doesn't it?
<< <i>Pretty sure that one is a You Suck lite™, as the recipient of several such awards I've always been told the profits must approach obscene levels to garner a full You Suck™. Great pick, though.

There certainly could be a rub we are not picking up from the photo's but again based on what I perceive to be luster it looks fairly consistant across the obverse and reverse surfaces so a weak strike could lead one down the au58 path if having to judge soley by photos

Just remember though, if you make an offer less than the price marked and the seller looks at the coin and notices the variety, he no longer has to sell it to you at the marked price.

Bingo...
Plus, if you're already getting like 92% off, there's no reason to ask for 93% IMHO.

Thanks for all the comments everyone.
It's nice to see that there are still "dealers" out there that can't grade a simple BU Morgan. You need to keep a close eye on that seller in the event other weakly struck coins show up. Maybe they have some early "XF/AU" mint-marked Walkers you can pick up. Anything not 100% struck is relegated to AU status...I love it! With a central cheek that is fully frosty and unblemished, it's hard to imagine anyone not seeing this coin as at least choice BU. The one jagged graze in the outside face area is the only obvious distraction.
Frankly, this 1900-0 has a darn good strike compared to other common O mints like the 83-0 and 84-0 which often look like VF's if you were judging solely by the eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear. We should all thank the US mint for continuing to strike coins in the old days when dies were well worn. If not, we would not still be able to buy unc coins today at XF or AU prices, though the TPG's have certainly helped to reduce those jackpots.
I'd never ask for an addtional amount off on what I already know to be a major score. Sometimes that karma comes back to bite you. Better to pay the full price and let the seller think you're a real dumb mark so that they can take "advantage" of you again in the future.
