My first 7/8 tailfeather Morgan. I'm a sucker for color. Any idea of when slabbed?

Stopped by a coin dealer on way home today and my eye got caught by this Morgan. What can I say something about color on a Morgan makes me reach for my wallet. No premium for the color....Just an added bonus as I see it. In NGC MS64 7/8 tailfeather plastic. Is of the 7/5 tailfeather variety tho.

Maybe I'm strange but kinda wondering about time frame it was holdered. Any ideas? Not sure but looks like NGC 7 holder to me. Black dot on corner of label? Purpose? I'm also wondering about the tone. Did these older NGC slabs have the tendancy to tone Morgans like this?

Appears to be VAM 38. The 2nd most common of the type, with VAM 33 the most common.

    Very pretty.

    Any idea of when slabbed?

Condor calls it an NGC5, the last of the no-line fatties, and speculates that holder was used around 1992 - 1995.

  • Thanks guys. I most of the time avoid coins in this price range. I had no idea of the value of the coin while I was looking at it. I feel alot better about the purchase now. I was kinda worried about the grade when viewing it. I've seen way worse looking coins in PCGS MS64 so I figured it was pretty clean for the grade. The color was what caught my eye on the coin.

    Thanks!

Yes, it is possible that some (or all) of the toning formed AFTER the coin was encapsulated. I have seen
that affect on both this type of holder and the old white ANACS holders. Either way, you picked up a
    really nice coin!

toning came after from the holder. very common to find a slab like that with that color
may the fonz be with you...always...
