eBay Seller Billbot

keyman64keyman64 Posts: 15,650 ✭✭✭✭✭
No sales since July 2009. Has a lot of high grade Mercs listed right now with only a VERY BAD photo of the obverse....no reverse photos. Just doesn't look good to me. Anyone else have thoughts on the matter? No returns accepted on the auctions I looked at. With only one side of the coins being shown, I think I will stay far away.

I looked at a couple of Mercs. They looked nice to me. I don't understand the feedback. Some sellers won't accept returns on PCGS coins with pics.

    Bottom line I don't know?

    No alarms here.
Only 51 feedback as a seller (good feedback including mercs), Paypal will hold the proceeds until you leave good feedback or he proves delivery.
Coins are PCGS graded. Only chance of a scam is if slabs are fake and I don't see it happening in this price range.
I wouldn't hesitate with this buyer based on what I see.

Feedback shows seller delivers what he describes. He's describing a coin that PCGS says is a certain grade. If you get the coin and don't agree with the grade you should take that up with PCGS. If you don't get what is pictured you won't need a return policy: You will easily when a dispute and have your money refunded.

We all know not to buy the slab, buy the coin. But when buying online from pics you gotta put some faith in the grading company, because they did have the coin in hand. That's why we pay a little more for top tier graded coins. The more reputable the grading company the more faith you should be able to put in them.

i wouldnt say those obverse pics are bad, no one looks at the coin anyway, just buy the plastic. coins are very difficult to photograph once slabbed, its a PCGS coin for christ sakes, what do you want ?

Maybe someone should ask him why he is selling his coins before jumping to conclusions?

If you look at "all" his feed back you will see it is normal for this seller to have gaps (my account is the same way, sometimes I put stuff up othertimes I don't.

threads like this always make me curious why they are posted. What is the motive? Why not ask the seller all of these questions, and if they dont respond, go on to the other millions of others for what you're looking for. Just seems simpler to me than to debate what 1 teeny tiny seller in the grand scheme of things is doing. I understand if you've ACTUALLY done a deal with the seller and they screwed you over somehow you may want to describe your one sided story...but even then, move on to the other million sellers. I wonder if you told the seller that you are curious as to why they do what they do and you are going to post their name on another discussion board for others to discuss. I wonder if the seller was invited to tell their side of the story here? Seems likes its almost bordering on slander. All jmho. Thank you for hearing me out on it, and maybe give the seller and others like them a chance to explain themself. No, I dont know this seller from any Joe walking down the street. Just trying to look at what motivates these kinds of threads.

No answers to the tougher questons? Again, just trying to learn what the motivation is here, even if it is pretty self evident.

The "motive" appears to be to see if anyone here has dealt with the seller, and if so, what their experiences were. If the OP had questions about the legitimacy of the seller and/or his coins, it makes sense to do what he did - ask others about him, rather than ask the person he doesn't know or trust. But , based on your posts in this thread, you sound as if you think that the OP has some hidden agenda or grudge against the seller.

Slander is VERBAL....since my post is in the written form the correct terminology would be LIBEL. Just an fyi. However, there is not libel here. I posted FACTS and I believe one opinion....but was also hoping that someone would chime in here with some personal experiences with Billbot....like he is someone's best friend that took a break for a year and maybe he is the most wonderful person in the whole world and his coins have always been perfect....or maybe someone knows him and maybe Billbot is no longer around and it might be a stolen account....just looking for anything at all. If the coins are of the quality that I buy, I would not mind bidding....but it is hard to tell anything from the 1 side photo that is posted and I wonder if something on the reverse is hidden.

Just proof that my post was not Libel:
No sales since July 2009 - FACT
Has a lot of high grade Mercs listed right now - FACT
Only a VERY BAD photo of the obverse posted with each listing I viewed - FACT...compare the photos to Coinfacts, Photograde, BlueCC, or even my own humble photos in my Merc Complete Variety Set.
    No Reverse Photos - FACT
    No returns accepted - FACT
Just doesn't look good to me - My Opinion and nothing illegal about that!
With only one side of the coins being shown, I think I will stay far away. - FACT...I think I will stay away.

What about my post was even close to LIBEL? You need to be careful about the accusations you are alluding to.

Well said, except ending your last sentence with a preposition image. Sure seem to be some cranky butts around here lately image

Ugh! I have always struggled with that; I tend to put a lot of thought into some sentences when trying to avoid that grammar mistake. I must improve. It also annoys me when Microsoft Office does not catch the mistake with their grammar check tool.

Thank you for stating what I suggested should maybe be done rather than dragging someones name thru the dirt without ever asking them a single question. Make sure yo edit your post now to take that comment out of context and to change the meaning of your statement which is common practice on this and all message boards.

As for you Mark, you need to stop reading so much into what people say/type. If a person doesnt say it, then dont arsesume anything and take them only on what was actually said/typed.

<<If the OP had questions about the legitimacy of the seller and/or his coins, it makes sense to do what he did - ask others about him, rather than ask the person he doesn't know or trust. Tell me where I implied anything remotely related to warranting that arsesumption. You're telling me it's ok to bash and question someones business activties without ever asking that person a single question? You ever heard of the phrase, "heard it from the horses mouth"? Why not give the person you're doubting a chance to explain themself rather than posting their name on a message board that can never be undone? Why not invite them here to join in on the discussion that is about them and could possibly affect their business? Thats called DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER fyi. image
You people just absolutely kill me with your thinking this is the proper way to go about finding something out about someone. Go to the SOURCE,,,and then if you dont like what you hear, THEN post it here. But the OP has now admitted that was not done, and is getting affirmation of this process. Truly unbelievable!!!

Based on his original post, it seemed very obvious what the OP's motive was (and he has since confirmed it). So your comments "threads like this always make me curious why they are posted. What is the motive?" lead me to believe that you wondered if the motive was something other than the obvious. I didn't assume anything.

I will not go back and edit my post, thank you. Please show me where I or Mark dragged anyone's name through the mud. Nothing of the sort was done.

Mark, nor I, never said ANYTHING about bashing anyone...nor did we insinuate that it was okay. You are trying to put words in our mouths. That is not a good practice. Feel free to go and invite the seller to conversation if you like. You can do that.

There were many things I did not like about his auctions and I believe I listed those items clearly. If it was just one minor thing, I would have asked the seller. When the list is four items long, I will ask others. And no, we do not kill you. That would be against the law. image

If you could only be honest with yourself mark, you would shout at the top of your lungs that I am dead on on this. Maybe something to improve on, I dont know. I have contacted the seller keyman, only to make him/her aware that someone felt s/he should be the topic of discussion and being critisized without ever a question being asked of them.

One forum member asking other fourum members their opinion ofan ebay listing is a regular topic of discussion here. Fact that OP stated his own opinion when asking was only to set the discussion in motion. Its much better when participants discuss the question posed rather than trying to discuss the person posting it.

I do not think I ever criticized. I listed a few facts, offerred my opinion and asked for other thoughts. Nothing like that is wrong. Please be careful in your posts. You have now said that we bash, we criticize and we kill you. None of those items are true.

I’ll bet billbot will be surprised he and his dimes are a topic of discussion on the esteemed PCGS boards. image As derryb stated these types of threads occur all the time and after reading keyman64s post, I don’t believe he was attacking billbot, just starting another thread about coins on ebay.

Maybe since the seller in question hasn't sold anything on eBay in over a year, maybe they arent aware that a full pic of each side of the coin must be shown entirely in the slab, maybe they dont have the ability or good enough camera to take the well detailed pics you require. Taking pics of smaller coins is challenging combined with it being slabbed (glare) unless you know what you're doing, agreed? No returns for certified coins is very common eventhough it is a misunderstood myth now (chargeback). Shipping seems to be very fair and all 5 auctions started @ .99 giving anyone a more than fair opportunity to win the coin. Doesnt appear to be any evidence of shilling either. Maybe the seller just isnt into eBay or the coin hobby in general the way we are? That doesnt excuse the seller from staying up with the numerous and very time consuming updates it takes to understand every little thing about what eBay requires, but maybe this person just wants to sell a few coins and thought eBay was the best place, or maybe the only place theyre aware of, to sell a few coins and stay away for another year?

All questions that couldve been asked of the seller, but instead was all posed here. At the very least in all this, you're talking behind someones back without giving them a fair chance to answer the questions. Do you enjoy when you are gossiped about? Thats all i'm saying. I apologize for being maybe a bit forward about this, I just dont like it when people arent given an opportunity to explain themself. Call it a pet peave of mine image

I had emailed the seller, earlier today, giving him a head's up about Ebay's image requirements, that the listings could be taken down by Ebay and that they were being discussed on a large coin forum.

I just heard back from him. He indicated that he was unaware of that and will make adjustments on the remaining items. He was appreciative and very nice about it. I trust him and I offered to post something here on his behalf if he wishes.
