Circ Buffalo Nickel question

Does anyone have any insight as to what might cause this coin to look like this? I’ve looked at it for some time now trying to figure out how it could end up like this and I just can’t figure it out.
The date being the highest point should have been the 1st thing to wear off on the obv. but it’s still strong but everything else looks more worn.
On the rev. the front leg is missing like the 37-D 3-legger as well as the Buffalo’s nose, but the rims seem strong as to protect from this type of wear.
So what makes a coin look like this?

    Metal detector find perhaps? I don't know the diagnostics for the '36 3 1/2 leg buffalo--the front right leg just certainly is weak on your coin, but may not be that variety. Would be nice if it is, though.

    Looks fake to me. Mushy, missing parts.

    I think it is a counterfeit. However, that doesn't mean it is worthless - - actually it is worth a lot more than if it were genuine.

    And I would buy it, so let me know if it is for sale.

    By the contour of the buffalo's face I can tell this is a counterfeit. There is another 1936 counterfeit similar to this but the Indian Head looks a bit different. These same fakes were also manufactured in 1935 as well as 1936 and this appears to be an attempt by the faker to make his work look a bit more real. But the clincher is the countour of the buffs face which exactly matches the 1935 and 1936 false pieces. I have a 1936 but not a 1935. This is a new one to me and HEY, I WOULD BY IT!!!

    It's a fake. The indian is smiling which you won't see on authentic pieces.

    Though it was not pointed out before if you look closely at this coin it has an S mintmark. The late Walter Breen mentions this particular fake in his Encyclopedia of US coins. So this particular mint-master produced a 1935, a 1936, and this 1936-s. The incorrect contour of the buffalo's face is the same on all three coins. buffnixx

    image There is no question this coin is a fake, there are way to many areas of this coin that are wrong....Way to many to list, such as the forehead of the Indian, the braid, the whole Buffalo!!
    The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
