Forget the bullion related stuff and the billionaire coins ... how are Joe Collector numismatic coins doing at Long Beach?

All glory is fleeting.

The 1939-P half dollar in MS68+ went for 17K hammer.

Kudos to that collector who got the first 68+ Walker. As of the sale date, that walker was the single highest graded walker in existence. Over 1000 visits/hits to that half dollar's auction page.

I would have to believe/guess some serious money was made from that sale, as a nice 68 39P would go for in the neighborhood of half that hammer price.

Mind you, the half was gorgeous.

I think my 68 39P is better however - but it doesn't have the '+', nor is it for sale anytime soon.

Some of the Simpson & Eliasberg dimes were very nice, too. I don't know if the money realized was good - no idea of older dimes' value.

The deep cameo Franklins were eye-openers. Went for some serious money IMHO.

The set of all 50 state quarters and the six territory quarters in NGC70 did not hit reserve.

I liked the female auctioneer (didn't catch her name) - she had a bright sense of humor. Some nice quips.

I took around a dozen 1909 VDB cents in various PCGS grades from 62BN to 66RB that I had lying around and that didn't sell on eBay at my admittedly high prices. Offered them to around a dozen dealers and only three were willing to take a look at them, the others had zero interest. Of the three I showed them to, only one asked me what my prices were and I was able to sell him two coins. Not sure about the rest of the market, but the market for slabbed 1909 VDB cents is pretty slow it seems when maybe 1 of 12 dealers even cared enough about them to ask me how much!!! image

The funniest thing is that I went to the show with 12 VDBs, sold 2 of them, but bought 3 others!!! I have a problem it seems but the 3 I bought were just awesome!!!!!!!
