Anyone know why it's in Tampa this year?? A non-ANA show is always FUN.

St. Andrews! It's just east of that big water hazard.

Yup, someone booked it before them I think. I most likely won't be going. =(

The way I'm driving the ball, ANY water hazard is a problem!

I don't care if it's held in Tallahassee or Key West, I'm going to be there!

You and me both!
<< <i>My understanding is that there is a huge home improvement show (might be wrong on this) that is taking up the entire convention center this year and FUN is supposed to return to Orlando next year. >>
We've got a lot of "understandings" here!
That's my understanding, too.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I really like the Orlando location but since I haven't been to Tampa before, I'm looking forward to being in Tampa. In any event, I think no matter where it is, the FUN show people put on a fantastic show!

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations near the Convention Center which are around $100 or less/night?
Additionally, anyone want to share a room and split the cost?

There are lots of good courses in the area. Too many to list.
If I could only visit two they are both to the north of Tampa. World Woods and Lake Jovita. Both are about an hour and a half from Tampa and worth the drive, IMO.
If you tell me how far you'd like to drive, and what type of course interests you, I could likely be of more assistance.
In regards to golf...there are dozens and dozens and dozens of options... but for the Longacre types I should mention AVILA...but since most of you don't live there...you have to know someone that lives there to get in. Only those driving around in very expensive cars, have hired help, own homes in the million plus category etc live within the walls of the community....and can get you in.
Back to hotels...
Most of you that fly into Tampa or just want to stay in Tampa there are plenty of options around the $100-140 range. If you go to Marriott's Website and search for airport code TPA(Tampa International Airport) you will see what exists. If you look at the Westshore area hotels, that is about a 5-10 minute drive out of downtown Tampa and those are perfectly nice if your goal is to get your price down close to $109 per night etc. There are plenty of restaurants in the area(outside the walls of downtown), great malls(2 in fact... International Mall is the NICEST and then there is West Shore mall which is plenty nice).
Hyatt.com will show some more expensive OR more inconvenient & more expensive options generally...trust me, I just checked.
If you go here looking for a hotel: Convention Center Hotel Guide you should consider yourself NUTS. They mention a lot of the expensive hotels....but none of the reasonable ones in the Westshore area.
If you have a rental car and do not mind a 15-20 minute drive...and you happen to fly into PIE(St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport). Just over the Howard Franklin Bridge (I275) into the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area there are a few options.
If you go to Marriott's Website and search for airport code PIE (St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport) you will find a couple of nice hotels very very close to the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport(in case you fly in there) and it is about a 20 minute drive over the bridge to downtown Tampa at the Tampa Convention Center.
St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater (plenty nice and $139/night)
12600 Roosevelt Blvd
St Petersburg, FL 33716

Other properties in the same vicinity go as low as $87 per night. Some around $100 are just fine. There are plenty of restaurants near there...Cheddar's, Outback, Chili's, fast food, sandwiches, Publix grocery...etc etc
If you happen to fly into PIE....just go stay in a hotel in Tampa, you will save some cash and time from driving across the bridge each day. There are plenty of options in Tampa....especially if you have a car.
I hope this was somehow helpful to someone since I spent a few minutes typing this stuff up. Enjoy your stay and maybe I will see you there.
Greg
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

errr...I mean, she is, she is
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>I'll be at the Tampa FUN this coming January. Looking forward to the new location, although there doesn't seem to be any inexpensive hotels around the convention center.

Ugh, I wish I could go! I had a lot of fun hanging out with you last year!

On the FUN webpage the Howard Johnson is listed at $75/ night. The real question is whether or not you really want to stay at a Howard Johnson in the U.S.
