Unknown Birmingham token.

My recent purchase an unknown Birmingham token:

I would be grateful if anyone could identify it. I can only see the word BIRMINGHAM but there's another word/s??

  • Will start digging, as nothing leaps to mind.
Hus, what's the diameter? Halfpenny size?

I never pay too much for my tokens...but every now and then I may buy them too soon.

  • Sorry, Hus...I got nothing. Went through all the likely suspects, including the Davis book on Warwickshire only,
and Whitmore's "Token Collector's Companion," but alas, to no avail. Even Pye...useless!

One lead I would recommend trying is the Warwickshire Museum, which has some pretty extensive numismatic holdings.
The manager of that area (Archaeology and Numismatics) is Sara Wear, last I checked. Perhaps she could connect you
with a local B-ham expert. I've found museum staff to be most helpful, and generally pretty generous and gracious
about it, too, when they get tough attribution questions from me.

    Keep us all posted, please!

    Best to all ~
    Tom

I love these beat-up looking things. They just reek of history; real lives, real tragedies, perhaps.
