My SGC Garvey RC I just got seems short

I just got a garvey rookie i won off ebay. When i got it it looked like the card was cut short top to bottom and side to side..just as i noticed this i picked it up and the card moved a little in the holder side to side and up and down. The top left of case looks like it has a touch of wear but not sure if that could be a common thing

You can see in scan the daylight L/R - Its hard to see in scan but there is a little as well T/B

I dont have many SGC cards but i never noticed one moving in the case. Is it possible that this card is ok? Do some cards come loose ever or move around? Or is something wrong here

(I do have a garvey graded 8 that doesnt move in the case at all)

I own a bunch of common 1971s and they do have some variation in sizes. They didn't always pack out cards that measured a perfect 2.5x3.5.

looks like a little gap in there, possible the card was cut just a bit short at the ol' factory, eh?

on a side note, Garvey has always been short, has been known as "The Father Of Our Country", and sports kind of a George Bush grin.

oh yeah, put a ruler over the holder and see what it measures. image

How will measuring the holder itself help anser the question?image

Looks a little skinny too IMO.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Thanks for letting me know - I feel a little better about it knowing that.

A few more views...im not one of these conspiracy people but i just feel something isnt right

There isnt that much chipping on the card thats in the scan. I put a few light arrows in yellow where looks like some frosting. Again im not an expert to know if this could be normal.

You can see how much space there is on the left side in the 1st pic

  • the Garvey looks fine to me, I have a box of 6 to 800 71 topps , the card size varies all over the place from being to big to being to small they are all PSA 4 to PSA 7 quality so I doubt they have been trimmed. With SCG & PSA , I have seen cards move around, had a 1969 Ryan that PSA put a plastic sleeve over before slabbing it so it would not move around in the holder. Then I have had some
68 -73 that were so tight it looked like they had to bend the card to get it to fit the holder.

I would be willing to bet if someone had a box of 71 topps or just about any year from 57 to 80 and opened and sent all the cards to PSA or SCG, there would be a few come back minsize reg. or EOT or miscut (which I guess is the term they use when the card is to large to fit in a regular holder).

a very nice Garvey are you going to try and cross it over to a PSA 8.5 or better? or just leave it where it is?

Thanks for all the info Diamond.

It is really nice. There are a few spots of white but not as many as scan shows.

As far as crossing it over that would be nice but at the same time I think it looks great in the SGC case.

    Thats pretty funny!
  • Nice Garvey, it looks fine to me too. SGC is pretty good at spotting EOT cards. It might be from vending. Vending cards can run short, narrow, wide and long.... all different sizes.

The only card I've ever had returned unslabbed from PSA is a 1971 Garvey, it got the MINSIZERQ label.
  • I find that odd. I own alot of SGC cards and not one of them can move at all in the slab. image

Thats what bothered me. I havent had alot of SGC cards but i never saw that. I guess its not a concern based on what a bunch of the others here said

I had some Mutoscopes SGC graded that didn't fit the gasket at all. They had an annoying gap all around the card. I think the Garvey looks fine....

It's a nice looking Garvey and I think it looks fine as far as size also...
