2010-D NO STEP Jefferson Nickels????

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,785 ✭✭✭✭✭
I purchased a box on eBay and just started going thru them and I am finding alot of coins that have basically NO STEPS image

It looks like someone took a spoon and just scooped out the steps image

I am not talking about steps running together, there are basically no steps from one side to the other. It seems to be sunken in where the steps should be. I have never seen a nickel like this.

Anyone seeing this?

I can't get a close-up of the steps to show this. image

There are still only 25 2007-D MS66FS Nickels graded by PCGS and I made all of them image

I made 24 pcs on a Bulk Submission along with alot of MS65FS coins. The 25th coin was a MS65FS I cracked out and sent in later on another submission. I still have a few "D" coins along with a bunch of MS66FS "P" coins left.

  • Wish I could look for them but haven't seen a single 2010 nickel yet. 8 cents and 4 dimes so far.

    Congrats on the 2007-D's!!
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

This wouldn't have anything to do with my theory, eh?

You may have come across a batch that were made from some really worn out SF dies. Someone at the mint asleep on the job?

Not trying to be negative, but ever since the mint sets were changed, I left the uncirculated coins and forgot about them. There just aren't enough decent examples to find to matter.

And seeing as though you are the only one to have made the 2007's... every one else must agree with me. The significant factor to me is... after 25 examples graded, the price should be relatively low enough to save the time and not go search through a ton of them to find my own. Your owning many of these examples modifies the numbers... i.e. IMHO if there were a couple of dealers owning these, the price would have plummeted by now... as similar to most other coins with a pop of 25 or more.

Since the mint has lowered the quality of the entire pool of possible candidates, I also think it's a waste of time to go search for these any more... just wait a while and one will eventually show up in the right price range.

So, I guess the answer to your original question is... it sounds to me as though you got the mints newest version of strike quality.

And with the sound of the crickets in this post, it seems as though you might be the only one searching... again.

    Good luck in your quest...

    Peace,

    Steve

Ditto......still haven't seen any in our area for the kids' books (mine and some neighbors that I help out).
At least someone is getting them....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
