question

In my ongoing efforts to learn about coins and collecting, why would somone pay to have a coin like this slabbed?

May have an AU58 set going?

Dad's pocket piece and now wanted to keep just as is?

Lot's of reasons but no extra value in my opinion.

He thought it was a much higher grade?

The coin is worth MELT. It will be interesting to see what it sells for(if it sells) becasue the person is CHARGING $10 for SHIPPING!!! Holey Cow!

If it sells for $5 then shipping is $10....and the person then takes it to a dealer and sells it for $18 for melt....they will make about $3 on it...that is if the person's time is worth ZERO. image

He probably posted this coin on a coin forum and said something like it was given to him by his first girlfriend and
at least six board members told him..." I would slab it"....

    so he did.

Wanted to see what five years in a Danco equated too but that was after dipping as he did not like the toning.
  • I hope I win it for my grading set

I go with maybe the coin was a sentimental piece and the person wanted it slabbed for safety, not caring about what grade the coin is.
