1884-O Toned Morgan Dollar - Vibrant Turquoise, Green & Magenta

Most of you know that I typically prefer to purchase two-sided Morgan Toners, but I broke with that tradition for this coin just purchased from fellow forum member Shane "KryptoniteComics".

I'd appreciate getting opinions and comments from my fellow forum members regarding this coin, especially from the toned coin specialists.

That is a great coin. Somewhat chattered obverse, dang fine reverse (63/65). The strike is fine and both the O and the R appear to have luster. Unusual coloration, but NT all the way. I like it very much. BTW, what did PCGS grade it (I hope not "genuine").

If that coin came to KComics from bstclsr(Lloyd), that is a coin I used to own. Otherwise, Lloyd may have the twin to that still.

Stuart, I might have missed it last night. I see that PCGS graded it MS-63. That's about right.

    Mesquite, Coindeuce and Stefanie:

Thanks for your posts regarding my new 1884-O Toned Morgan Dollar. I'd be interested in learning more about the provenance of this coin, if it was previously owned by either Lloyd and/or Mesquite. I don't typically pay premiums for color, however I made an exception in this case because I thought it was a reasonable premium for an attractive coin.

  • I know how much my consigner paid for this coin and let me just say he took a bath and you made out like a bandit.....very good eye appeal on this one and one that I would be happy to own in my personal collection. I don't believe this coin was owned by Lloyd but I guess he can pop in and comment???

I don't know who owned it before only that I have seen it posted on this forum before and always thought it was a beauty

    Stuart,

I can tell you only that if I had once owned that coin, I would still be the owner of that coin.

Love the reverse color on that one Stuart.

    How's the luster?

    Nice looking Morgan Toner Stuart!!!

I'm not into Morgans at all but if I was, I'd go after that one too.

Congrats on a sweet looking coin image

I disagree, the fact that it is only toned on one side, and that side is the reverse, says NT to me.
