Mount Removed?

Forgive a newbie question, but what does PCGS mean by "Mount Removed"? This gold half-eagle has been in the family for probably 70 years or more and has never been in what I think of as a mount. Also, exactly what does PCGS consider "damage" to a coin so that it is not gradable? I wish PSGS would provide just a little more information as to why they refused to grade my coins. When I have stamps expertised they tell me what the flaws are.

Means a gold loop was attached to the coin (usually the edge at 12:00) so it could be used as jewelry. Also, welcome.image

It can also mean the coin was in a bezel, or mounted in a piece of jewelry using prongs.
  • Can you let us know the date? PCGS may be incorrect!
