1829 CBH Raw

So this was my first CBH purchase. It is one my favorite coins. It has a beautiful golden tone with fields that are light blue and purple(ish). This thing really looks beautiful under light. The obverse picture does a much better job of showing the true look, but still does not do it justice. The reverse has a similar look in hand, but the pictures just didn't capture it as well. I'm thinking about sending it into PCGS. It would be my fist submission. I'll probably send in with a few other coins that I want to cross with a free membership submission. What do you think it will grade? By the way, I wish the PCGS photo cost were less. I would probably get every submission done if it were $10 bucks. But at the moment, I'm not buying $1,000 coins so I really cant justify $20. It's only another $10 and I know I would be happy having the photo, but I can't get passed it. Anyway, here she is.

Nice, Garrett! It's hard not to love CBH's. And that looks like a pretty example. I'm sure the white balance is off on the photos as the coin probably isn't burnt orange. image

I'd guess it will grade around XF45, perhaps even AU50.

From what I can see, I'm not convinced that the color is original - I suspect that the coin was once dipped or lightly cleaned and subsequently retoned. Grade-wise, I'd guess AU50 or so, IF it were to receive a grade.

Yeah...it's not burnt orange. From what I can tell there are no hairlines from a cleaning. I'm not sure about dipped, as I am not sure exactly what to look for. When I send it in, if they decide it won't grade, it will be coming back raw. I don't want it in a genuine holder. I would appreciate it more raw. If they do grade, my guess would be a real nice XF...but I have also seen some au50's with similar wear. Looks like this will be an interesting test.

What are some of the signs of dipping? Since this first purchase I have bought only TPG coins, but I would like to know what to look out for in the future.

    Thanks.
