hey guys,,,,this is shtterbug8 from ebay. you guys really think u know it all huh? well since all my ebay auctions got shut down for no reason at all. i went to my local dealers again and they confirmed what i thought. they are real. they took testers to them and even weighed them. they also bought them. so u dont have to worry about them no more.

We certainly don't think we know it all, but we know you had some counterfeits listed for sale. And that was a very good reason (not "for no reason at all") for your auctions to have been shut down. Additionally, either the dealers didn't know their stuff or you're lying about their having bought the coins.

As a group, this forum knows as much about coins, numismatics, exonumia, etc. as is humanly possible. The members here consist of many of the top experts in their respective fields and many knowledgeable collectors and dealers.
Just curious, what kind of "testers" did your dealers take to the coin as you put it?

So does that then mean you will not any longer be selling coins on eBay, since you have sold them to dealers?
Oh, and collectively, the folks here DO know almost "all" about coins - at least enough to help eBay try to keep the worst of the crap off of the market.
Rather than continue to buy fake slabs and replica coins - then try to explain that away by saying that you were selling your originals - it would be far more productive for you to stay around here and learn more about coins. At least then you might figure out a few tricks and become harder to catch.
i bought replicas to replace the originals in my collection. once i recieve more replicas to replace some of my originals in my collection i will be selling more.
testers used by the dealers i used was scales, silver detector. magnets, 40x mag.
i understand everyones concern on this forum about people selling counterfeits! its no good for the hobby. but i ensure you all that im not doing such.
i do have one concern about one of the coins in my collection though....its a 1805 draped bust half dollar. the numerial 1 is aweful close to the number 8 and the number eight looks stretched out to. besides that coin looks great. the date on it just looks really off to me. i dont recall when i got it or even how much i paid for it. i was just going thru my stuff and uncovered it. i will try and post pictures on here later.
i showed the 1893s to several of the dealers i sold the other coins to. none seemed very interested in it except for one and he said he couldnt afford it. alll told me it seemed legit to them but nobody tested it since it was in the slab. one did weigh it by placing a slab of same size on the scale and deductiing its weight from mine. everything was seemed fine to him.
have any of you seen counterfeit error coins? i bought two from a local dealer for face value. it was two rosevelt dimes. someone spooned them to death on the rim to simulate an error. i bought them just as a conversational piece. if i can find them i will post pics of them also.

I would not buy the coin because of the blebs in the field - raised areas there are a few but on obverse below the L of LIBERTY and to the left of the star left of L in LIBERTY on the reverse, there are a couple after the last A in AMERICA
if you think about how a coin is made (squeezed/pressed between 2 dies - and metal flows up to fill the devices) it makes it very hard to not have smooth fields, unless the die is cracked or broken and you would not get those type of marks
the coin shows signs of being a struck copy made from transfer dies
when you see those marks, do not buy the coin unless there is some very good reason to
there are too many other coins that can be bought
my hands look like yours now as well - too much grease, oil amd hydraulic fluid to keep out of the cracks
some day I may figure out a way to scam other people with worthless services/bubble markets/investment scams so that I can wear tailored suits and get manicures/pedicures

I call it the beginning of a good potential recovery - it seems like this fellow could learn and apply the knowledge (that you all are so willing to give others) to good use. Could we try a restart, maybe?
hartmen - could I suggest that you find a flat surface on which to put your coins, with maybe a desk lamp for illumination, and get your fingers out of the photos? I don't mean this in a condescending way, but the reception to your photos will improve, with just that (along with some practice).
If you will post photos of your higher-value coins here, and continue to participate, you will get some very valuable information. Also, I recommend that you use the search feature to look up past messages on photographic lighting techniques - in fact, look for the many threads (messages) that pertain to all aspects of coin photography. The information here is priceless.

I suggest that if you are being honest about your intents, you a) quit buying coins from wherever you are buying them, because they're fake, and b) post those that you have here, or have them certified before you list them on eBay.
And you still have your fingers in those photos. You're killin' me

Or is that the guy the ebayer is buying from and reselling as legit.

I'm not familiar with that particular brand of camersa, but typically, a macro lens (setting) is used for closeups.
