My Heritage Platinum Night purchase. 1969-S DDO, PCGS AU55

I just got this coin, one week after the auction.
I called Heritage and told them how much I appreciated the early delivery.
I just sent the personal check yesterday and they wouldn't have it yet.
The man I talked to said they occasionally do that for old customers with a good Heritage history.
I guess I'm one.

Here it is.

This is the greatest looking DDO I've seen. IMHO.

Nice coin, and on the other topic my dad gets his items most time before he even sends payment. He does not have a computer and does all his auction by mailing in his bids. I guess after 30 or so years they get to know you.

    PCGS AU55.

$32,500 plus juice. $37,417 incl. BP and S&H.

BTW, PCGS raised all grades in their price guide's "price changes" for "today" by $10,000, more or less, the day it sold.

I guess that was my fault. image

This variety does nothing for me yet then it's taken 30+ years for me to finally warm up to the 55 DDO as being neat.

I do have a very close collector friend for whom a 69-S DDO would be the coin he'd sell a limb or an organ to posses in top pop.

Congratulations and maybe in another 15 years or so I too might appreciate it image

Several notes; I have the '55 DDO and the '72 DDO. It took me major time to spring for this one!
Who knows how many rolls there might be out there somewhere that could be found and send the price tumbling.
The odds are against it of course but I can't help thinking of the possibility. Like the 1933 double eagle find.
My Mom bought 3 1955 DDOs that were full red. Back then, they were just BU. She paid $65 each for them.
Within a year or 2, she sold them for 3 times the money at $200 each. She was beyond getting my opinion then.
When I was 13, I bought my first Red Book. 1949 edition.
I saw the 1931-S Lincoln listed in fine for $0.75 in it.
I knew the mintage was less than a million and told my Dad to buy every one he could lay his hands on for that price.
His words, verbatim: "I'll never pay 75 cents for a penny". He was right. 3 or 4 years later, he was buying them and paying $7 each in fine.
He also bought 30 or 40 for about $16 each in BU if memory serves me right.
He had 188 total in various conditions. His total outlay was right at $2000. A few years later, he couldn't pass up a chance to sell the
    whole shebang for $8000.
20 years later, he didn't or wouldn't admit that I had told him about them in 1949.
After all, what does a 13 year old kid know about money.
Just fond memories from my childhood. I really miss both of them.
I guess that's about all I have to say.

Good luck with your collecting everybody and thanks for all the nice comments.

You should see the ultra large photo Heritage provides with it's normal size photos.
That really blew my mind and helped me decide I had to have it!

  • Congrats on picking up an awesome variety! Thanks for sharing the memories from your childhood. I remember when I was about 7 or 8 my dad told me about the '55 DDO and to check every '55 cent that I came across. Neither of us have ever found one, yet.
