  I have had coins come from other countries, Australia included, and never had to deal with any import duties. Since the coin in question is U.S., then most likely, no.

  call it a gold medallion, don't use the word coin it confuses them. They think you're shipping pocket money.

  I've had quite a few coins shipped here form Australia and Europe and never had any import duties charged.

  there is no duty on coins. there is duty on tokens and medals . call them numismatic items.

  I live in California and have bought various coins from Australian sellers and never paid a duty.
  
  You might ask the seller to mark the package something like "US made goods returned to the US".
