ANA Newps

As you know, prior to the ANA the Norweb 1797 half was purchased - this coin was graded MS65+ at the show and will receive the CAC sticker. Looking forward to seeing it in hand for the very first time.

Also, after being the underbidder at the B&M auction, I was offered the 1794 dollar after the sale and jumped at the chance. It was always my intention to put the coin into a 63+ holder and there it now resides. After the Norweb coin is properly regraded MS64+ then the coins will be their proper one grade apart. They really had no business being in the same numerical holder.

I also purchased an MS64 1855 seated dollar from a dealer's personal collection - the coin crossed the first time through. And the 1858 PR64 seated dollar from the Heritage sale. All in all a very good show!!!

The 1855 is a monster! I can only hope for your dupe, our XF coin is looking a little out of place after the recent surge of MS coins...

    Congrats on the good show!

TDN, do you have any coins in your collection that the average, middle-income collector could afford?

Of course! I've got a great set of chopmarked trade dollars most of which were only a few hundred dollars each .... and somewhere I've got a BU Walker short set in an album. image

MLC, TDN has shared some average looking Trade Dollars here in the last couple months!

Now, TDN where are all the pictures of your NewPs? image

Give a guy a break - the only one I've ever seen in hand is the 1794 dollar - which, by the way, supposedly looks fantastic in the new plastic. image

Bruce, so you're the one who outbid me on the 1858 Proof Dollar.image

I had the pleasure of viewing the 1797 Half at the show and had a difficult time handing it back to George. What a coin! Sigh.image

O am surprised the Norweb 1797 doesn't cost a good % more than the 1794 dollar from B&M sale. Not that there is anything wrong with the dollar but I always thought the two 97 halfs in GEM + were top 50 coins.

I was gonna start that thread! The 2 coins cost me exactly the same amount. Seems to me the half was the better deal too

Out of this humble civil servant's league but standard market logic would state that prices right now on 1794 1$'s would trend to the strong side due to the trickle down (if a choice UNC/near Gem 94 dollar could ever be considered down) form the Neil/Carter Specimen sale & surrounding publicity, while the GEM 97 half is only limited due to what the last one sold for and is all but unprecedented in scope.

I figured the 97 half would be almost $2M based on the strong recent prices so I too think the half was the better deal. Although the 94 dollar also went for less than i figured, i thought it would be at least $1.5M due to the huge price for the Carter Specimen.
