St. Apollinaris church is situated just below the town of Remagen in the Prussian Rhine Province. It stands on a height overlooking the Rhine on the site of a chapel formerly dedicated to St. Martin.

The E.F. ZWIRNER mentioned on the reverse of the medal is Ernst Friedrich Zwirner (1802-1861), who was responsible for the construction of the cathedral. Zwirner also built the Synagogue at Cologne and was the architect for the reconstruction of Cologne cathedral. His works won him every conceivable honor and distinction. It is said that his devotion to the work of restoring the Cologne cathedral was so great that many of his contemporaries felt his zeal had hastened his death (Eidlitz).

Great medal ... but I don't like the reflection special effect.

Nice medal, it's the last Wiener medal i've added to my collection as well.

Do you have a copy of the Van Hoydonck reference? Or is the info from the good Dr.s website? If you got a copy of the reference, congrats!
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

I do not have the reference book and even if I did, I am unable to read German......lol All the info I get is off of the Dr.'s website. I know CRO had the reference book up for sale for a pretty penny a few weeks ago. Not sure if has sold or not.

The book is neat. I know enough german to get the gist of it but not all of it. The paper is like a plastic, it was made to last! image
