I also remember that the 1967 Canadian sets with gold were always available at coin shows in Detroit; you just had to know who to ask. They did not put them out on display. TD

Great coin but the story behind how you got it twice was FANTASTIC!! And I enjoyed every second I spent reading it.
I also had special feelings about my mom and dad. Mom was the one who followed me into numistmatics but more of a wheeler-dealer than a collector. At about age 10, I started getting key coins for Christmas and birthdays. Unfortunely, I too needed the money after my mariage in the early '60s. I sold complete sets of IHC, Lincoln cents and Liberty 5c. Dad worked a lot of overtime at the coal mine in S. IL. I did most of the work on the 120 acres he sharecropped. Yes, I miss them and think of them often.
Good luck with your collecting.

It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold and silver. Gandhi.
I collect all 20th century series except gold including those series that ended there.
A wonderful story and such thoughtful and giving parents.
Your story reminded me of my own father who bought my small collection when I was a 1970s desperate teenager hellbent on buying a fancy stereo system. While I certainly enjoyed rocking to Led Zepplin and Aerosmith then, I will never forget my now deceased father travelling to my home about 15 years ago to give it all back. That action prompted me (eventually) to return to collecting a few years ago and to rediscover why this is such a great hobby.
Thanks for a great post.

It just shows that what is truly important is not merely the coins. The highlights of my last 36 years in numismatics are about people and experiences. I would not trade them for the world. What a great experience you had. I would hope you document it and pass the story, along with the coin, to your children one day. It is awesome! Larry L.

Not only is this a heartfelt story, it just goes to show the True Love that your Dad has for you... although he may not know how to express it in words...
Like so many others, my Dad bailed me out of financial binds on several occasions over the years.. Be thankful you can still give him a hug
BEAUTIFUL coin too !! I'd be proud to add it to my type set.
