My latest addition to my CBH set..........I of course had to add a few more bucks to what I sold my 1817/3 for in order pay for it, but what do you all think?
Comments are welcome and guesses as to grade and variety as well.
Just keep in mind one thing, these pics DO NOT WHATSOEVER show the luster on this CBH, as it IS THERE, believe me!!!
Thanks

<< <i>I think it looks nice... is it the O-114? >>
I don't think it's nice at all....I think it's mouth-watering beautiful!
There happens to be a O-114 PCGS AU55 coming up for sale at the ANA next month......Linky
Will be interesting to see what it sells for........as it's not very often to see a choice AU 1807 Large Stars up for auction.
Personally, I think the AU55 above is not AT ALL attractive and lacks a lot as far as looks go, JMHO.
at least au58, most likely higher.

<< <i>From what I can decipher, tis a strange photo, and using my imagination and knowing you phenom taste level I am sure you are right. The details of the coin such as the strike and the fact that it seems to have original surfaces and toning of some sort are apparent but i just can't get a handle on what the coin really looks like ie I know it can't look like that in hand. Just one question, why such an oddly taken photo, are you trying to bring something out etc? >>
Not trying to bring out anything special at all with these pics, just trying to show off the strike and surface quality, but just for the record, these are the seller's pics.

If I'm not mistaken, this particular AU50+ was first on Harry's site and priced a little higher then it is now, then it was on CRO's site for a little while at a slightly lower price, and now somehow it's back on Harry's site. Either way, I think it may be sitting there for awhile as the asking price of $7950 is a little unrealistic, again JMHO.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
And I'm pretty sure you didn't pay 3 times the value of your 1817/3.
The O.114 has also risen in value much more than the coin it replaced. In 2003 I paid less than 8K for a PC 62.
It seems that the O-114 is a little tougher than the 0-113 Small Stars, is that true in your opinion Dale?
I'll reveal the grade later tonight.....just want to get a few more comments/guesses as to grade.
I guess I'll go against the grain a bit (as I usually do) and say it's a 50. No idea what PCGS graded it though. Again, I call it 50 as you say the luster is there, but I am not deterred for the good strike which is nice because the 114 is usually strong in the strike department. BTW, I had a 45 that had much less of a wear pattern but lacked luster for 50 or better. Also had a 40 same thing. I almost want to say 40- 45
Here is the one in the PCGS 40 holder. Heck of a nice coin but didn't have luster to bring it higher......
If it had some more luster, it would definitely have a chance at AU50.
Looks about AU-53 to me depending on luster.
I really would prefer better photos for a guess but I'll wager AU55. With the right amount of luster it might even be 58. I see now why you sold the 17/3. I hope you got close to your price.
Will you be sending this to Mark G. for images? I hope so.
Here's another XF40 O.114. It has nice eye appeal and was a steal at $1833. But I do lust for a pretty AU.
So I can see what the fuss was about. What an extremely attractive Bust Half for this very rare O.114. Looks grey dirt. If the luster is as good as you say, did a PCGS grader bump it to Au55? Congradulations on the superb addiction to your terrific set.
Be well,
Chuck
Nice early CBH
Love the 07's and the way the bird looks so dar gone mean.
Much better than the more gentler, kinder, politically correct birds minted after 08.
Your beauty looks to show classic AU wear. I would put her in the 50-53 range depending on luster.
Great strike on this as is more common on the O-114's as stated by that guy stman.
He is one smart man that stman.
But you have a great new coin in that 1807.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
I promise that in the near future I will get better images that allow the luster to be seen more clearly.
I also feel very fortunate to have been able to acquire this particular coin as I'm sure the remainder of the PCGS AU O-114's are in some strong hands.
Thanks again everyone

First thanks for viewing my website and spotting the 1807 O-114 PCGS AU50 plus.
I have owned this coin several times. The first time I purchased it I paid 9k and sold it for 10k.
This coin is no average coin. Besides being completely original it has extremely attractive green gold and orange circle toning the consistently covers the stars and letters on both sides. Concentric colorful circles framing the coin. When I saw it the first time I knew it was special.
I was able to repurchase it subsequently at a lower price but not directly from my buyer. He should have called me to buy it back! It is currently listed for 7950 and because I once traded it for 9k -10k I don't think the price unrealistic for this very special coin.
I would sell the coin for less than it's listed, and while I've seen this grade of large stars trade in the 5k range I really believe this coin is worth a handsome premium. I hope somebody who posts on the forum will stop by our pre ANA tables 502 & 504 or our ANA tables 819 & 821 to view this coin and report back to forum readers

Here is the link but the scan does not do the colors justice. Come see it in person
First of all, welcome to the boards. I noticed the above post was your first.
I wanted to be clear as I didn't mean to say that your absolutely gorgeous 1807 O-114 PCGS AU50+ wouldn't sell, just that it may have to wait for the right buyer who appreciates the beauty and originality that your CBH obviously has.
I also pointed out in one of my posts above that there is a O-114 PC55 up for auction next month at the ANA which is by no means attractive, IMO and based on the pics, mind you, I haven't seen this coin in person, but based on the pics alone, I don't think it will command too much of a premium above the PCGS price guide of $7600 for an AU55, however as there have been very few O-114's up for auction recently, I may be wrong. Interestingly enough, this particular piece was once in a NGC AU58 holder and sold at auction a couple of years ago (4/08) for $6900 and then more recently it was crossed into its current PCGS 55 holder and sold last year (3/09) in a Stack's auction for $8050!!! Either way, one thing is for sure, the 1807 O-114 Large Stars is a scarce variety and IMO should carry a premium, the question is, just how much. I really do hope you get your asking price and that it goes to another CBH collector who appreciates originality and eye appeal.
I also have to say thank you Harry as I've bought several CBH's from you in the past and have been VERY, VERY pleased to say the least.
Two CBH's in particular from my collection that come to mind are my 1814 O-108a E/A PCGS AU55........a super tough variety in AU, at least from my experience, and a beautifully toned 1836 O-112 Bar-Dot Variety Ex. Meyer Collection PCGS AU55 that upgraded to 58 on the first try!!
We appreciate your support and kind words and we are glad there are collectors who appreciate quality, and realize that really special coins can command special prices.
Hope to see you at the ANA, stop by and say hello!
Harry
