I just moved from wisconsin to the florida keys image I cant stand wisconsin!! I wouldnt even go back to wisconsin if someone paid me to. My wifes family resides there and I wont even go back to vist. I lived in wisconsin for roughly 2 years and they were about the worst two years of my life. Ten months of winter one month of spring and maybe at best one month of summer, no thanks.

    Soty27,

I dont remember my 20 years in Wisconsin the same as you, but after living in Key West for four years, its hard to look fondly at any northern local.

In 30+ years of visits I've always found Wisconsin to be a beautiful state with extremely nice people.
But I've never visited during the winter.
    When in doubt, don't.

I definetly will. I am not leaving the hobby or forums that is for sure. In fact I'd like to find a way to get more involved in the hobby and try to generate a little side income. The job market looks thin up there. I am moving because my girlfriend became ill(breast cancer at 38 yrsold image) She moved back home to be with her family during her treatment and recovery. I am underemployed but the job I do have is work from home(currency trader). My income will go further up there and and can spend time with her so its a no brainer. Ive lived everywhere, NY, NJ Atlanta, Philly, Florida twice. I am actually really excited about adding this outdoor experience. Winters I know will be tough but is there a better winter hobby than coin collecting? NOPE

    Milwaukee is a beautiful city.

Coastline is hike-worthy and beautiful as well.

    Taxes are a trifle steep.

As mentioned earlier - it do get cold there.....

Edited to add - be sure to do a brewery tour in Milwaukee.

And you can fohgetabout getting any pizza. You should line up your favorite place now to fedex you some pies when you're ready to go crazy.

Good luck! If you like the outdoors you will have some of the finest fishing and grouse hunting in the country. The mosquitoes will be hellacious. If you are in to roll searching, I would be sure to hit some of the small town banks. Milwaukee and Mpls/Saint Paul wouldn't be too far for some of the bigger shows.

Most importantly, best wishes to your girlfriend...

Nothing's stopping you and it's a lot cheaper than Santa Rosa.

Am I the only one to notice that in Wisconsin ranch dressing is the multipurpose sauce/ dressing for any and all food and gets applied to everything?

Congrats! Farm & Fleet and Fleet Farm are actually different stores, although they carry the same stuff and the names can be used interchangably and understood. You will also always save big money at Menards. Also, attending a fish fry on Fridays is mandatory in some areas. (Oh, and who needs pizza when you have bratwurst?)

I lived in Wisconsin and Michigan for 55 years. God's country for sure.

The city slickers and flatlanders from Illinois image love to pan the cheese heads but don't pay any attention to them. Ask them to explain why I-94 is full of Illinois license plates heading north on any given weekend, with no Wisconsin plates heading south.

The best way to deal with the winters is to find some activities that you like. I liked snowmobiling, ice fishing (or as the locals call it - ice drinking), and coin collecting.

I have since moved to North Carolina and will miss the fresh fallen snow. But I sure won't miss shoveling it!

    Enjoy your stay.

You might find one of these to be handy. It helps keep the riff raff out.

Nuther stupid statement. There are only so many ways to make an effen pizza. Good is relative to what is good to you and what is good to you may not be good to others. You can get good pizza a lot of places, but you must be confusing it with great pizza. Then again Pizza Hut is dreck no matter where you get it. Really kinda stupid how so many folks like other places to be the same as where they are or where they came from. You want Minnesota to be like Florida, then just stay in Florida. Leave your money, but not your footprints. Better yet, send us a check and save is the anguish of your displeasure.

I've been in Cumberland, WI, for the past 30 years. If you ever get over this way, be sure to check out Louie's Finer Meats. It's a family owned meat market that is internationally recognized for it's homemade smoked meat products (check out their website at louiesfinermeats.com). They also make more than 30 varieties of bratwurst. The town's annual celebration is the Rutabaga Festival. Apparently Cumberland used to bill itself as the "rutabaga capital of the world". The family facationed in Key West in January '09. Had a GREAT time.

I live in southern IL and get the best of both worlds. 10 degrees, snow and ice in the winter and 100 degrees with high humidity and swarming bugs in the summer and I tell you I would take the heat and humidity 12 months a year over the cold any day. After a couple months the cold, clouds and dull dead landscape gets depressing.

Wisconsin is full of nice people, but it gets cold. Lake Michigan has much better beaches over here in West Michigan. There is a high-speed ferry boat in the Summer from Milwaukee to Muskegon, MI, and it only takes about 2.25 hours to cross.

Any place you live you can learn to like, hate or be neutral. Find things to do that are fun for you. Obesity is especially rampant in Michigan and Wisconsin, so take care to eat right and exercise. Lots of opportunities to cross country ski.

    Good luck.

Guy from Key West: You can have the best of both worlds: live in Northern Wisconsin in the Summer and Key West in the winter.

But - I warn you , the mosquitos are thick up there. You'll get used to it. The winters suck, unless you like cross country skiing or snowmobiling. I grew up in Port Washington, 25 north of Milwaukee - not a bad place to live, Sailboat Harbor on the lake, 10% cooler in the summer (less mosquitos) and 10% warmer in the winter. Friday night Fish Frys and $1 beer, and its only 30 miles to the cultural capital. Milwaukee !!!! (ok , so they talk a bit wierd, the people are really friendly (ya hey - get me a beer once! hey)
