Experience with crossover from SGC to PSA

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with crossover from SGC to PSA where a SGC 8.5 was sent in and you said lowest grade you wanted was PSA 8 and it came back a 8.5? or will best you can really hope for is the 8?

Major star or common? I think this makes a big difference. They're not crossing over expensive stuff easily.

If the cards is that strong, crack and resubmit. The odds are against you if submitted in a SGC holder. The crossover service is just a money grab by PSA.

I've cracked SGC 98 1977 Topps commons and have had PSA 8s returned.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, I sent in two SGC 98 1998 Bowman's Best Atomic Refractors of Ken Griffey Jr, and they both came back 10s. Those were easily $300+ cards each.

Hit or miss. I've actually had better luck with GAI cards (old flip) crossing over. They wouldn't cross my '62 Perry RC SGC 88 to PSA 8 and they wouldn't cross a SGC 96 '50 Bowman common to a PSA 9. I did manage to get a '57 common to cross from SGC 88 to PSA 8. I got a GAI 9 '66 Harper to cross to a PSA 8.5 and a 1967 #1 Champs to cross from GAI 8 to PSA 8. A '59 team card in a GAI 8.5 holder wouldn't cross due to evidence of trimming.

I cracked an SGC 92 and crossed it into a population 1 PSA 10. Modern card (1990), but a tough minor league issue.

I've had a lot of success in crossing over SGC cards (left in the holder), and one disaster (SGC 92 showed evidence of trimming). Value of card has not made a difference in my experience.

    Markj111,
You've had alot of success with the cards sent in the holder? "WOW". Are you putting the same grade as the holder for minimum grade. You're about the only one I know of. MG is a common initial I've seen.

I agree, my crossover results have been dismal....

Without cracking the card out, I think you're wasting money. Cracking out BTW is no big deal, just gotta be careful.
  • Dismal results too so a couple years ago just started cracking everything out and have been happy with the results.

I once cracked an SGC 60 Mars attacks card and received a PSA 8.

The SGC card was really sweet and I was hoping for a PSA 7.

    That is my only experience.

You bet from that point forward I was looking at SGC Mars Attacks cards though.

    Good for you.

I have crossed over at least 20 SGC cards to PSA including tough 1957 Topps Basketball and all but one crossed. That was an SGC 98 Larry Bird 1988-89 Fleer that I probably should not have sent as it was overgraded.

Not that I am calling you a liar, but this sounds like an old urban legend.....
  • I've had better than 50% success at direct grade crossover with SGC.
