Let's see, the high bid at the time was $999.5K; he bid $999,999.99.....how in hell is that "entered wrong bid amount"? He/she knew EXACTLY what he/she was doing!!!!!
ebay needs to do something about people retracting bids for such obviously transparent reasons!
He bid like 50 times. You don't bid $999,000 and then bid $999,999 and say wrong amount. This is going to get interesting becuase it will only take a few of these top bidders to drop and this is back to $350,000 or lower. This is wild!

I can 100% say that I will not retract my bid. I will fly to wherever Fox News wants me to go to pick up the card and do an interview with bad check in hand. I may even get one of those big prize checks to give to the seller.

+1 for giant oversized bad check and you should write "I hate paypal" in the For_______ line
They should have to deposit funds into PayPal to bid at this point. I bet a ton of these bidders will no longer be registered Ebay members soon. A million dollars goes a long way and a singed piece of cardboard that was made a few months ago is not worth it under any circumstances.
<< <i>a singed piece of cardboard that was made a few months ago is not worth it under any circumstances. >>
Thats your opinion, however unless you are the high bidder or the 2nd highest bidder, your opinion doesn't mean anything and isn't factored into the price. Market Value on Ebay isn't an average of bids, its only based on the two highest and right now the 2 highest bids say that its worth quite a lot.
<< <i>If you follow stocks you will understand. The bids can dry up very quickly. If you think it is worth it buy it. >>
I never said the bids wouldn't dry up, thats a given with this auction. I was just responding to your emphatic pronouncement of the value of the card as if you set the market.
I by no means set the market and in no way indicated any thing of the sort. I have collected for 26 years and I can tell you one thing, this card is not worth 1 million no matter what anyone thinks at this moment in time. The second a new hot prospect comes along this card will be an after thought. This list is endless of can't miss rookies that are not worth a dime at this point. This guy may turn out to be the best pitcher of all time but the card market moves on hype and what is current. This is clearly a frenzy and will blow over at some point. I made a lot of money shorting the market over the years and scenarios just like this hapen frequently with stocks and when the dust settles the prices people paid are almost not imaginable.
<< <i>The second a new hot prospect comes along this card will be an after thought. This list is endless of can't miss rookies that are not worth a dime at this point. >>
I think we all can agree on that. The key difference is that the hot rookie cards we all grew up seeing rise and fall in value were all made with moderate or high quantity. The 1/1 phenomenon of the hot rookie card is what is different now. The 1/1 factor is what also makes it impossible for any of us to speak with authority as to the real value of the card, which was my point earlier. Anyway, looks like no one else is bidding on Mr. Strasburg for the time being, so I'm calling it a night.
That just because a few people at one moment in time think the price is right it can change in a heart beat. The current bid means nothing in the long run to the value of the card. This guy has a long career ahead of him that has to pan out. The same thing happens to hot stocks early on. The run way further then you can imagine and then once the hype fades and the bids dry up the stock falls dramatically. The same thing will happen here. That is WTF I meant.
Yeah this is a unique item I will agree. This will be fun to watch in the coming days and watch the sellers feedback to see if it really sells. Good night.

This hobby has it's limitations, the threshold to break is the PSA 8 T206 Wagner or if you prefer to stay post war..a PSA 9 52 Mantle. For a modern card to sell for anything remotely close to that is absurd, especially when it's a 1 of 1. Think about that for a second....Bowman Superfractor 1 of 1......Bowman BP1 Auto 1 of 1....Bowman Chome Superfractor Auto 1 of 1.....A&G Auto 1 of 1....Topps Triple Threads Auto 1 of 1.......Topps Sterling Auto 1 of 1.....Topps Update & Highlights 1 of 1...the list can go on and on. My point is....although a card is serial numbered 1 of 1......it has not only color variations in the same set numbered slightly higher but other issues that may have 1 of 1's in them....therefore....anything close to 6 figures is a joke....honestly...it's like the .com boom and housing boom....you're buying hype...

Actually it means Ebay canceled the bid, not the buyer or seller.
At least that is my understanding.
