Final Yellowstone NP Quarter Mintages

GritsManGritsMan Posts: 2,599 ✭✭✭

Just found these numbers posted on cointalk.com and another site:

Hot Springs-P-29,000,000 D-30,600,000
Yellowstone-P-34,800,000 D-33,600,000

Astonishingly low numbers for arguably the most popular subject in the entire series. IMO, 2010 quarters are really setting up to be the keys for the entire series going forward. As the economy picks up, mintages should increase dramatically. Only question is, how many of these 2010s are being squirreled away as rolls and bags, and how many are getting released out into the public? I still haven't found a single Hot Springs or Yellowstone quarter in circulation. Has anyone else?

Give me some CHAT, people!

The corallary of supply is demand.
There is little demand for the new series. Collectors are burnt out on quarters.

Well, for now they are. But look what's happening to the First Spouse coins right now. I believe that as soon as news of these low mintages percolates, interest could well be revived.

    110% agree.
I tried to do the SHQs w/ my young son. Before he was ready, initially, so I could figure things out, then with him near the end of them.

Too many different designs. Too hard to get at face value (and in UNC). Making the satin finish for the mint sets helped to kill desire and continuity for some folks as well.

I think the two roll sets sold by the Mint will be big winners by next year.

Demand from the general public for the National Parks Quarters appears to be very, very low. This is very different from 1999 when the general public really got enthused about the State Quarters.

I don't know if the cause is burnout due to too many new issues or disappointment at the poor "investment" performance of the State Parks Quarters.
It is probably a little of both.

The National Parks Quarters also have very low visibility. I still haven't received one in change.

    All glory is fleeting.

I'm with you on this one. My goal is to put together the entire series in the special mint paper image

I was able to get some rolls from the bank, but I had to be right on top of things. Yeah, those Mint-wrapped rolls could be something...

I ordered 15 boxes of 2 rolls and 15 boxes of the 100 coin bags of the Yellowstone. Opened 4 boxes and was so pizzed at the poor quality I boxed everything back up and sent them back. I didn't expect GEMS but I was lucky if any were 63. This was the most pathetic bunch of Mint crap I have seen in my 10 years of ordering quarters from them. Spots, grease, whacks, scrapes, worn out dies and just plain shameful quality. They can have them back. Both D's and P's were pathetic. I bet they reused the dies that were used for the satin finish Uncirculated Mint set quarters they probably just cranked out. As far as mintages go...... dunno. Prolly a very small following and 20+ mill. way more than satisfies demand. Woof, woof.....this series is a dog in the makingimage Probably 75%++ will be hoarded in UNC condition.

I've gotten 3 P Hot Springs Quarters in circulation so far. Found no Yellowstones. I have 2 boxes each of 2 roll sets for my collection.

We're only 3 months and 2 releases into the series. I think the majority of state quarter collectors, probably, don't even know about this series yet. Perhaps not quite as popular as the state quarter series, but these will, eventually, be collected. There were, at least, 4,430,940,000 business strike state quarters minted in 1999. usmint So far, in 2010... 128,000,000.

Best thing the USMint did for the SHQs, imho, were the $25 bags of 1999 and 2000 that you could still buy in later years (at least until 2003 I think, if not later).
Without those, I had gotten into them too late to get the early ones in BU for my son.

But then, as the USMint usually does (thank you Moy! image ), they stopped doing these and you couldn't get them for later years.
I think I still have a couple of unopened ones (I bought at least a couple and opened 1 to start the set), but it's a pure shame they aren't doing this type of thing still.
The premium they make on the bags ($37.50 for a $25 face value bag) should be enough to make it worthwhile, but they don't do it.

I think the 5 oz National Parks bullion will be winners (Something new you know for the masses), not the quarters.
