Wrestling Cards on the rise
i know there was a thread about a hogan rookie and someone was talking about buying up a bunch of the 82 and 83 cards because he thought they were undervalued. well it looks like he doesnt have to wait much longer. it looks like this psa 10 flair is going to sell for big money.

Did you notice the guy from Wrestle Prints raised his price on the Andre to $39.95 and now limit of one. Glad I bought two for $20 a piece.
I hope you really trust this seller is honest and isn't tempted to shill you up. If your talking this way about it being at $300, sounds like you would go near double this amount with no problem.
There is no way I would be talking about bidding and putting bids like that out there.
I do like the cards. Nice

<< <i>I take it you are joking. I have no interest in paying a penny more then I have to for this card. The vast majority of this board wacks off to Stephen Strasburg. I happen to be a very serious collector of this set of cards. The only reason I can even be on these boards is because I signed up to get 15 cards of the 82 A graded. Go check the PSA registry. A guy I have posted back in forth with happens to mention this auction. I responded...I gave an honest answer. >>
Dpeck100,
They are just trying to help you avoid paying more than you might otherwise have to. They realize that there is a reasonable chance of a seller that has a PSA graded card, might happen upon this thread, or get tipped off by someone, and would know that there is someone that is very serious about buying the card and might be inclined to shill his/her auction to get the maximum price out of you. (sorry about the run on sentence) Basically, they are just saying to not tip your hand publicly.
Mike
If you think getting your bid ran up and shilled thru the roof is funny, then I guess I was joking.
I suggest you look into FREE snipe service and then come back and tell me how much money and headaches you saved.
This is not a knock on the cards, but a knock on your bidding practices. ie being vocal about what and how high you bid.

But hey, if you win you will pay what's OK with you -- but it's always good to save a few bucks.

What do the backs of these cards look like? Can you post a pic?
Edit to add: that thing is about as centered as well as the Strasburg everyone made a stink about..
At this moment there is no shill bidding. The guy right behind me is TBK Big Kahuna and he owns the other Gem Mint Flair. I knew this would not be cheap. Some how on these boards people justify spending huge sume of money on tons of cards. This is a very unique card.
It is not just die hard wrestling people buying these cards at this point.
Every persons approaches EBAY differently. I bid earlier and often.
<< <i>The only reason I can even be on these boards is because I signed up to get 15 cards of the 82 A graded. >>
Ummmm.....this is a free public forum. Probably about half the people here are not members of PSA.
<< <i>Here is an example of the back of the card. This came from an EBAY auction that is at over $11 for Mil Mascaras. He is a common in the Beckett guide and priced at $2.50. This is exactly why I really like these cards as they in many cases sell for 3 to 5 times Beckett high book. >>
Yeah, the Beckett guide is on top of current pricing. Beckett hasn't been relevant in over a decade for pricing.
Not sure why you prefer to bid "early and often" because you are asking to be shilled(especially after talking with the seller and I'm assuming you let them know in several ways how much you wanted this card). Unless they were a moron, of course they are going to tell you everything you want to hear and how rare they are, etc...
Just because it is the only 10 graded means very little, I would advise you to ask around and see if any card from 1970 to present that PSA graded 10 sold for more money each time a new one came to market. I don't know of a single instance of that being the case.
Your setting the bar very high now for people to come in and make them and more 10's will be made now that the high price will be notice. That is a fact.
As for the potential of shill bidding, there are not a lot of people who bid on wrestling cards and you see the same people all the time. I have more risk of a bidding war with three of collectors then shill bidding.
I have 900 of the cards from the three sets, trust me there are very few even in mint condition.
As for the price I have no intention of ever selling so a potential profit is not my motive.

<< <i>The reason I do this is to avoid the last second bidding war that you bid more then you really want to. >>
So you get in a 7 day bidding war with another ebay user that doesn't snipe?
Sniping programs enter your max bid with only a few seconds left. Or you can just do it yourself with only a few seconds left. No bidding war.
Seriously -- you've talked me into putting this set together Dpeck -- thanks for the heads up and info -- time to place some bids

<< <i>The reason there have only been 10 graded is becuase most of them would get a 5 or 6 and smart collectors are not going to spend the time and money to get a card of that condition graded. The other major reason is there is said to be only 2000 of this card. >>
You've already made up your mind about high grade scarcity. Only time will tell, but I heard many say the same thing about 1977 Topps Mexican Football. It's amazing, but when something, even something quite scarce, limited and condition sensitive, gets some higher end pricing and publicity it NEVER takes long for more to show up.
I sold PSA 8 and a few PSA 9 (less than 20 existed in the entire pop of the set at the time) Topps Mexicans when they were scarce in the grade. I got some insane prices for them. Not too soon thereafter, the PSA 8 and PSA 9 populations multiplied and the prices tumbled. In such a thin market, it's bound to happen. History tends to repeat . . .
<< <i>Not too soon thereafter, the PSA 8 and PSA 9 populations multiplied and the prices tumbled. >>
How many of those 8's and 9's were the same cards cracked and resubbed? Will never know and that's my biggest issue with the pop report and how it relates to realized prices.
Here is a good website for checklist of wrestling cards. I remember the 1982 set as a child. I saw them at card shows in the mid 80's. I do think they are very rare and hard to get in top condition. I don't think the Flair is worth the $1000+ I think it is headed for.
