ebay BS...Not a rant, I am so disgusted with being a chump ,I could just spit......
ebay...not being smart but my patience is getting tested big time........
I sold this coin....
Then I get this message....
Hi
I'm sorry I had to go take a chill pill before sending this to you. Your package arrived today. You didn't pack it very well and the coin was bouncing around loose inside the envelope. It now has some minor scratches on it. I was disappointed somewhat to say the least. I really didn't want to send it back as it is high end coin. I have been looking for one for quite awhile. Proof coins should be treated better than that. I'm looking for a response from you as to what you want to do. Sorry about that. I believe in giving you the chance to fix it before jumping and and giving you a rotten feedback like I have seen others do. let me know.
kevin
when I received this I was shocked, we are very, very consistant in the way we ship...........
But the best policy is always in favor of the customer...that's how we do it.........
So I replied to the customer.........
Hello,
I am sorry to hear that, the coin was in a flip and the flip should have been wrapped in bubble wrap ? Feel free to return it to me for full refund including all shipping costs.
Thank you for letting me know,
Eric

Then today I get This.......
Hi
I've had a chance to think about it and how about this? How about refunded me $12.00 and I'll call it at BU coin and I will be happy. I love the coin and have looked for a long time for a quality coin. I can live with a few minor scratches and save you the trouble of shipping it back and have you re-list again. Thank you for your kind response. I will come back to you and buy again. Oh the problem with the coin is you should have bent the coin holder in half and put some tape over the end of it and it would have been fine. It found a way out of the bubble wrap as well when I opened it up and almost fell out and hit the ground. I saw it and turned the package quickly to avoid it falling out. Oh well bygones are bygones. Have a Happy 4th.

Thanks for allowing me to rant..........

Good luck with your buyer.
it as I bet he keeps the coin. Not worth getting upset over....now go have a hot dog and a beer.

<< <i>Smart business would have refunded him $12, get good feedback and then block him. >>
There's, of course, no guarantee a refund would get the OP good feedback.
The "send me a partial refund bit" seems to be a growing problem on eBay. I ran into it myself a few months ago.

I vote rant.
A few years back I had 3 turds that gave me a good test. The first was a woman that had purchased a PCGS PR 69 Jefferson nickel , for around $10. Her dog had got hold of it and chew on it a little. She demanded her money back. I very nicely told her to bound sand. I did save her e-mail , and it never went very far.
I had another women , who's son had urinated on the slab. She wanted a new coin to replace the one she bought. Same story , same result.
The third was very painful. I had sold about a $600 Morgan to a guy in NJ. He had moved and claimed that the coin never arrived to his new address. I had shipped to his paypal address. Ebay/paypal ruled in his favor , even though I had signature confirmation. He claimed that someone else signed at his former address . When I filed a claim at the postoffice , their response was we delivered it to the address on the package........ Good lesson learned.
Good luck--- Sonny
If they intended to lower the cost after receiving the coin then they could have stated that in their first email and avoided the manipulative segway.
But, as you say, you feel extorted regardless of the order of correspondence. That is enough for me.
I understand your frustration.
I have blocked the buyer.

His rant is definitely warranted.

why do you care...........
<< <i>So, which is it?
why do you care........... >>
He cares for ALL of us.
Guy bids one coin. Calls my eBay number asking about the color (NGC slabbed Morgan). I inform him that I make every effort to be as accurate as possible and that IMO the color fell somewhere between the enlarged images I shoot close up and the slab images I take at a wider frame. But, if he ended up being the winning bidder and didn't like the color he could return it for a refund. So, the guy wins the coin (Tuesday), pays for it the evening he wins it, and I ship it the next day (Wednesday).
Three days go by an I get a call from him around 9:30 PM EST (Saturday). He asks me again about details about how I take pictures, and more questions about this coins color etc... I proceed to tell him that as far as color goes its tough for me to give him an absolute answer as I don't know how his monitor renders color. I explain color profiles embedded in my images and the steps I go to to white balance on NGC's slabs (sampling the white in the slab). At this point - though I've remained what feels ridiculously amenable and cordial – I'm getting the feeling that that something is rotten. He tells me he is very excited and thinks he got a great deal on the coin and asks me what I paid for it. Here is where I mess up, because I was feeling relaxed because we were talking more about computers than coins at this point: I tell him I'm glad he got it at that price because I bought it raw for $30 (common date MS Morgan I paid more for due to color which came back from NGC MS 63*). While I didn't notice any change in attitude, I'm pretty confident that this was the turning point. We hung up, and I was hopeful that was the last I'd hear from the guy - sorry but this was just too much conversation for a $120 coin.
Next business day (Monday). I get a full on ranting maniac email. Paraphrased: 'You lied, your images are doctored, I want a discount.', so forth... I told him politely that he was welcome to return the coin for a full refund (I did not mention paying for his shipping at this point). On a lark I looked up the tracking information for the coin. Sure enough he had gotten the coin sometime Friday (He lived in the same state). When he called me Saturday I had no clue he had already gotten the coin - and apparently he had no intention of telling me.
Again continue to get more eBay messages from the guy asking for a discount and calling me a liar, a fraud, and a few choice profane words (reported to eBay). I respond now telling I'll give him a refund, but no discount. While I now believe he is fishing for a discount because he knows what I paid for the coin - I never mention this to him. Refund... No discount is my bottom line - And I always tell him that in a businesslike manner. The next day he messages me that he's given the coin as a gift so he can't return it and still demands a refund. Then, I feel he attempted to extort me with feedback, though eBay didn't see it my way. I went back into my emails so I could give a direct quote for this particular bit:
<i>"i still like the coin but as i stated...not at that price...if you want to make it a trouble free transaction for ME the buyer... you should offer me a discount...me having to return this coin and making the assumption i'm wrong is unfair, everyone i showed the picture to in your listing stated your picture was altered and does not reflect what i bid on. Feedback, item not as discribed, etc...and not agreeing with my request is surely going to make this an unfortunate transaction"</i>
Now I read this as using feedback as a threat (extortion). While you may read it differently, I will point from his first sign of dissatisfaction I offered him a refund, and there were 3 emails leading up to the "unfortunate transaction email" and >12< emails following it before this guy actually stopped bugging me. I knew I was going to get a negative. It was the first one I had gotten - and I haven't gotten one since. But I don't regret sticking to my guys for a millisecond.
ok, kind of a rant......
that I sold for $4 and the buyer wanted $2 back because the mailman had folded the
envelope and I didn't put "do not fold" on the envelope.
On the other hand, I receive an empty bubble-wrap envelope that was supposed to
contain a silver dollar sized coin. Apparently the seller put it in a plastic holder,
put it into the envelope loose, it moved around and the sharp edge on the plastic
holder cut it's way out of the envelope. I requested and received a refund for this.
Things average out in the end.

Admittedly, if it's a high profit deal that I feel I can't get close to that price, and they want to scam me out of a few bucks, I PayPal them back the money, and overall I figure it's still a good sale for me.

1- Stand your ground. You called his bluff, now stick to it.
2- If he negs you, it will get removed. "I believe in giving you the chance to fix it before jumping and and giving you a rotten feedback like I have seen others do" is a threat of a negative, and against eBay policy.
I recently had a buyer ask about what he saw as a scratch the second the auction ended. I replied that I thought it to be a die crack, and if it were a scratch, it was old, light, and wouldn't keep the coin out of a holder. When he received it, he confirmed it was a scratch to him, but said he still really liked the coin and could use it, asking for a partial refund to make things work. I told him his options were to return the coin or keep it at the full price. Shocking, I didn't hear back from him... and I won't again, since he's blocked

...agree.

To quote the rest of the buyers email.
"in order to work this out I will give you the opportunity to avoid negative feedback for non described damage, just refund me the postage and NGC fee for having the coin re-slabbed"?
Had he not worded it that way I might have had a problem, we told him we would report this for feedback extortion if he insisted on this tactic? We never heard back.
Yes he did, I'm baffled......
<< <i>Looks like he was not real unhappy as it looks like he gave you positive feedback. Still, for you, a big pain to try to get money from you.
