What is the difference between Craigslist and EBAY

I have heard many horror stories about Craig'slist. What is the difference between them and Eay. I have never used Craiglist before and I think only have gone on their site once or twice. Can't the same scams be put on Ebay and wouldn't people be more likely to scam on Ebay since they never actually have to meet the person they are selling to?

Its kind of like crime. Even in nicer neighborhoods there is crime. But some areas you know you better stay out of, Craigs list is that neighborhood, not that there is not an occasional good deal, but you best have a bodyguard with you. On ebay there are sellers that have been there for years, with good reputations that you get comfortable with. Even on ebay I usually don't purchase more expensive cards from those with low feedback.

Also, more knowledgeable people are on Ebay.....for the most part, they can spot fakes, even if they are in"PSA" cases. CL has some people that couldn't spot a fake if their life depended on it.

Yes, but on eBay its a lot easier to get things righted if your scammed (paypal, CC chargeback, etc). On Craigslist, your SOL once the exchange goes through unless you want to try to get police involved.

Craig's List is chock-full of scams, crooks and fakes.

    ebay.....not so much image

Seriously, the scams, crooks and fakes on Craig's List seem to outnumber the good guys by about 100-1.

On ebay, the ratio is much, much less.

It might have something to do with interstate commerce laws, and regulations/laws against mail fraud. Since Craig's List is mainly in-person/local face-to-face dealings, people there don't have to worry about those. Also, if you're dealing with someone face-to-face, in a cash transaction at a neutral site, I suppose it would also be more difficult to prove the identity of the person you're buying from. They could use a fake ID, and even if the item you bought turned out to be fake, you could be hard-pressed to prove who the seller actually was.

I just 17 sets of 1991 Stadium club in pages and binders for $50 off of craigslist. It came with 6 sets of football so 6 nice Favre rookies. Craigslist is good for cards that barely sell for shipping on ebay but would be worth 3-5 a box or set if you didn't have to pay for shipping. in a larger metro areas I think there can be deals had.

One is an auction type site where you can get ripped off the other is a listing only site where you can get ripped off.

One offers a lot of massages; the other sends me certificates with pretty stars the more I buy.

The first thing that came to mind was Life and Death. If it came down to Craigslist to get cards I would seriously quit the hobby.
  • Ebay the postman shows up with a bad ck or fake money order or a fake card or fake PSA slab.

Craigslist the buyer or the seller shows up with a 38 smith and wesson and robs your butt.

both are bad but one hurts a little more. image

Way different means of buying and selling. I will always try to sell something on Craigslist first since it is FREE, LOCAL, and EASY. Just make it a cash transaction and NEVER have people come to your house! Just meet up at a place of your choice with a lot of people around. You can even get people to buy things for more because of the convienence factor of the local sell. People want to look at and hold what they are buying....and some are really weird about this. Ebay is great because the world is your stage, but there is always the fees and shipping. I use both with great regularity depending on the item I have for sale.

This sounds like some type of Mintacular question.

Where is wisdom or common sense on questions like this ? NOTE--- Please do not ask what the difference is , as that very question points to the question of intellectual diversity as the root problem.

    "Intellectual diversity."
I like that term. Gets the point across, less confrontational than "idiot."
Actually those who embrace "intellectual diversity" may not comprestand.

WOW, I didn't know smith and wesson showed up when you sold something on Craigs list....I currently have a dining room table and chairs out there to sell, hope they don't sneak up behind me with an offer I can't refuse......luckily the first person who was going to stop and see it didn't show up....maybe they were out of ammo....
