I know it is early, but are a lot of people here planning on going to the ANA in Boston?

LongacreLongacre Posts: 16,717 ✭✭✭
I know it is really early to ask, but because your very own Longacre is a sniveling wimp, he needs to work over Mrs. L. for a few months in order to be allowed to go to a coin show. I checked my calendar, and although I may be in India at some point around the time of the ANA in Boston, I might be able to work it into my schedule. I already greased the skids a little bit by agreeing that Mrs. L can spend a month in Hawaii on a well-deserved vacation, so I hope she will agree to having me spend a day (maybe two??) in Boston.

Are a lot of people on these boards going to the ANA Boston show? I tend to view the shows as a social hour(s), so the more the merrier. Any thoughts?

I might be able to go. I get back from Europe only a few days prior, and I probably won't feel like traveling another 1000 miles from Chi to Bos.

I was planning on going until events popped up in Boston the following two weekends... can't afford the time now. It figures the show would be there a year after my 4 year residency there was up, and I have plenty of friends to stay with nearby...

I live in the Boston area and I turned down a free trip to Europe (ok, it was for work, but still) to make sure that I'm going to be in town.

I haven't been to an ANA show since the last time it was in Boston 28 years ago!

I plan on being there for a couple days, but holy crap are hotels ever expensive. Maybe I'll fly in to Manchester, get a car, stay at a cheap place in the greater Lowell area, and take the train in to the show.

Thats not such a good idea. Lowell is crack city usa from what I've heard. Be careful in that city at night.

I'll be set up at 1617 with an alarming array of oddball stuff.

The 1600 aisle is like a mini Numismatic Americana murderer's row: Steve Hayden, Mike Wierzba, David Fanning/George Kolbe, Henry Garrett, and I are all within watermelon seed spitting distance. Stuck in the middle: David Hall Rare Coins!

Van fits right in though. Don't tell him I told you, but he's a closet Americana fan himself!

Hitting Bean town on the Thursday early train. But I think it's really "moldy librarians and salty manuscripts." Maybe I'll reveal how many 1933 DE exist or how many 1929 DE or 21s.....

We have an antique show conflict that week, but I will be down for at least one day (less than a three hour drive for me, but I will probably take a bus down from Portland, nicer to read on the way and not hassle with parking and traffic)

Most likely I will be there from Tuesday until Saturday. I will be sharing a table with another dealer but it is uncertain whether or not I will have any of my coins on display.

I have a hotel room reserved at only $265/ night. This is a good time to find a room because they don't seem to be getting any cheaper.

Priceline is your friend only if your plans are set in stone and you don't care where you'll be staying. I am familiar with the area around the convention center and there are many hotels in that area I would prefer to avoid if possible. Some of the ANA host hotels are no exception.

I've stayed at that Sheraton many times before and I would prefer to stay somewhere else if at all possible.

When I tried priceline, the deals were not very good. What amazed me was the gap in the back bay area from 3.5 star hotels to 2 star (going by memory), there wasnt much middle ground in the area.
