Please help me verify 1954 Hank Aaron with PICS

Could you please tell me if the Hank Aaron, pictured in the middle is real? Has the case been tampered with?

The back of the Aaron has no hologram, like the Mantle, and the case looks alittle fogging on top and sides, the Mantle does not.

Please let me know ASAP, I am going to buy the Aaron today.

Am I crazy, or does that Mantle have a new flip on the front and an old flip on the back? I thought they did away with that hologram long before they started putting the numerical grade under the grade's abbreviation (and before they started using .5 grades). The Aaron looks correct to me. Got any better pics?

Make sure its not a Craigslist fake, PSA-6 Aaron is well known to be one.

    long read...craigslist fakes

In person it would be easy to see a fake IMO, so hopefully your up on your 1954 Topps.
  • Thanks for the quick replies. Sorry I don't have any better pics.

    Please keep the replies coming.

You are 100% correct which makes it fake. Run, do not walk, away from those cards.

The colors in the Aaron just don't look right to me....

Also, the Mantle has a grade of 8.5, with a white PSA logo on the back. The white PSA logo is OLD, and half grades weren't out back when that case was used, so a grade of 8.5 during that time is IMPOSSIBLE. RUN VERY FAR AWAY, LEST YOU LOSE YOUR MONEY FOREVER!!!!!!!

Look at the corners(on the inside of the case) they are shaped different than most PSA cases. Seem to be wider.

  • Again thanks for the comments. I am going to postpone the purchase the Aaron. I am also going to request better close up PICS of the Aaron.

I am very nervous about the purchase and just want to be sure the Aaron is real. I guess its hard to tell just from the PICS. I am buying it online and have no way of seeing it in person. Just don't want to make a $500 mistake.

The Aaron's slab is fake, and does not conform to any existing PSA slabs.

The Aaron card itself looks fake as well.

If you buy them, use fake money.

$500 for a PSA 6 Aaron RC is all you need to know if they are fakes. That card's VCP average is $975

  • Here is the last communication have I have with the seller after 5 times of asking for better pics and documation that he sent the card to PSA himself:

Yes I sent it to psa long ago I don't have any documents they just encase the card grade it and send it back to you like I said I'm at work and I already sent u the best pictures I can get with my phone and there's a scan with the ad on craigslist. Not much else I can do I took the ad down cause I thought I had card sold. You called me last night I have the card ready to send if you don't feel good doing it just lmk so I can sell it to someone else the card is fine so is holder its been in my collection awhile just lmk either way if you want it or not either way its ok no hard feelings thanks ben Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

  • For a $500 sale he should have no problem giving you better pictures to ease your concerns.
  • FAKE, FAKE, FAKE... Probably the only legitimate thing on that desk is the keyboard.

Although I admit I like that style of slab with the notched out openings to showcase the corners, it's not a PSA slab. The font is way off too. The 'y' in Henry is floating higher than the other letters.

It’s the classic example of 'Too good to be true'. AVOID.

  • Finally the seller sent me a better PIC. Its it real/fake?

He keeps on saying that he sent them to PSA a long time ago. And I am walking away from the deal, very quickly. I just wanted to post up one more PIC just to make sure. Case closed. Thanks everyone. You all were very helpful. I learn a lesson and don't lose any money (not true I did spend $1.10 for the USPS Money Order). I am sure going to double check with you again in the future.

IMO both PSA holders look like they were tampered with. Looks like both top and bottom edges on the slabs have the cracked frost which makes me think the labels and cards have been swapped out for what you see now. I would stay far far far away from those.
  • jimq112jimq112 Posts: 3,511 ✭✭✭
If you're not really convinced yet and think there's a chance that they're real -

one is graded since the .5 was available
one is graded before the .5 was available

they have the same bar code on both cards

Problem is, they aren't PSA holders. They may or may not be tampered with but they sure weren't supplied or encapsulated by PSA.

While I'm fired up. If anyone has to ask more than 567 questions concerning a $1000 card they are not qualified to make the purchase. Buying expensive items requires alot of knowledge of the collectible market in which this unpotential buyer does not have. Let's quit fooling around. Is the unpotential buyer actually the seller?

You guys are really a piece of work. I come here for help not knowing what to do and get accused of trying to scam someone else when in fact I was making sure that I was not being scam.

Wow I have belonged to alot of Message Boards in my life but the people who responsed to accuse me are just plain uneducated fools.

For those who did help me, thanks for saving me $500.

    Thanks,

Yes I am unpotential buyer and not qualified to make the purchase and thats why I joined this forum and asked the question. You on the other hand are not qualified to lend a helping hand and help someone. You should get off your high horse and act as if you are knowledgeable and help others who know less then you and teach them. I am sure you have made alot of mistakes in your life, so use that knowledge to educate. Based on the comment you made, you are not that smart.

Rob, while it's impossible to NOT take offense to some of the stuff written here, you have to understand that we've seen this same type of thread started many times before, and more times than not it's the seller putting out a feeler to see how good his fake is. If it passes the test here, it'll pass anywhere. We were just trying to help, and it appears we did.
  • zep33zep33 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭
Let it drop Rob - you've said your peace

New users have attempted to scam this board over and over. It's kind of like "The boy who cried wolf" after awhile.

And on behalf of the board, I think we can now say - Welcome to the jungle image
  • You did Jeff and I can't thank you enough.

  • Well I am still looking to buy a 1954 Aaron in 6 or higher and I am looking to spend around $1,000 so please if anyone knows of a real one please let me know.

Please call me 516-851-6276 or email rdmerrill@leggmason.com. I live in Long Island NY. I would like to see the card in person but if you are honest, reputable and have lots of PICs or documenation I will consider doing the transaction online. And this is not a SCAM so please don't brother posting any replies with regard to that nonsense.

    Thanks,
